I might be swapping the 383 to a build 440 but I want to be on the safe side when it comes to getting the power to the tires.
If the +400 horses break lose will my rear end catch up or will it explode?
The car sat for more then 10 years so I think a rebuild will do it right.
What are the parts that need to be replaced?  Need to be ordered?

CB, your's has a 8 and 3/4 rear end right? If so will be safe to well over 400 HP unless you mean at the rear wheels with big meats (tires) and a worked rear suspension. Hook up is what kills the rear ends not the HP.

8 and 3/4's will live a long time on the street. My 69 Charger has 206,000 miles on the sure gripp with no problems yet. 68 Runner about the same and I beat on it pretty dam hard with the 426 Maxie. Well over 500 Hp at the crank.

With a mild rear suspension bulid up like pion snubber, reclamping the springs or Super Stock springs 10 inch steet tires will work fine with a 400 HP 440.

My first thought was the transmission, I had a 727 that sounded something like that but was starting to slip.

Is it sort of a humming sound? What gears doe the Charger have in it? 4.10 get a littlle noisey, that is normaly pion depth. I must admit I don't know alot about Mopar's rear ends. Why you ask? I don't break them ;D

OK, 8 and 3/4 will break today when I take the Charger out. :icon_smile_big:
