okay well this thread will explain the whole story, i have no dash at all from when my car was taken apart nor the vin plate in the engine compartment has been removed, is there any way to let the dmv  verify the vin on my charger. it's a out of state title and it needs to be  inspected for vin verification :slap:

My guess is that you're out of luck keeping the car titled with its current VIN.  Having the police report and all the details of what happend with Mr. Hilka will get you some sympathy down at the DMV, but they still title/register cars based on the VIN number.  You can't have your car's VIN verified without the ID plate, so you'll be in limbo until the car has a VIN of some sort.  The best course of action you probably have is to explain the situation to your state's DMV and get a State-Issued VIN.

I'm assuming that there's no chance of recovering the original dash?

It depends on the state you're in.  I had a 85 Toyota Celica Convertible that someone stole my vin right out of the dash.  I went to the DMV with all the police paperwork and they re-vinned the car.  I wouldn't suggest this on a classic car, though unless you plan on never selling.  I know the story on your car and I think you'll be better off buying another one or making a drag car out of it  :Twocents:

well thers is a slight chance but i can't find nor contact him at all,  though his old house has abandon notices all over it  :shruggy: plus he probably won't be be happy to know that the p.d. let me have the car back lol so it seems im kinda screwed. the case was more a civil matter than an autotheft

nope waited to long for this car so selling it is not an option, and selling it w/o vin numbers would be hard lol

im not sure the year of your car, but i do know that on 70 chargers ,a partial vin# is stamped on the back side of the radiator support,on top,
(where the top tank of the radiator would be),and it is also stamped on top of the trunk lip,on the drivers side, (underneath the rubber trunk seal). a partial vin # is stamped in those 2 places for sure, you just have to find them. i dont know if will be enough for dmv but you can try.

i see a partial number on the radiator support and i see a another number as well on the trunk lip. thanx for the info
