You guys ever take your Charger to NOPI, or other shows?

Now I'm a hardcore musclecar guy, but I'm busting my ass trying to get my 70 ready to take to NOPI nationals in Atlanta this 15-16. It's a show for the younger under 25 crowd, but its awesome nonetheless. All kind of cars, from imports, to minitrucks, to monstertrucks, to musclecars, vendors, girls, everything. I've got a decent looking 240sx I took a couple of years ago, and it was a blast. People are so laid back and easy to get along with. Not to mention everyone is out crusing that weekend, it's a sight.

But another good reason to go to a show like this, is to show our cars to the younger crowd that have never been up close and personal to classic Mopar muscle. What better way to show them what a cool car really is, than to drive it right up there and let them see and hear it. While most people up there bring late models, or imports, for the most part they have a respect for everything, and it is an experience.

I'm going to trailer my Charger to the hotel, and then drive the 2 miles there. I'm on a mad dash since it has only been running since 2 weeks ago, and it's on the last phase of a 4 year resto. It's not the nicest car, but it doesn't matter. I'll be missing all the electrical stuff minus lights, no rear windshield, no door panels, and possibly no alternator, etc. Everything elese is there though.

I cant wait for the tunnel entrance, where everyone revs up their ride to hear it echo. Hopefully I get infront of a Honda and can put the fear of God into them.

Do any of you guys ever check out these shows? It's a lotta fun.

if they had one local, I'd go.  Imports arent my thing but some of them are OK when theyre done right and I can definitely appreciate a kid that works on his own car.

I talk to a lot of 16-20 year olds and playfully tease them about their Hondas, but almost all of them say that they'd love to have an old Charger/Chevelle/Mustang/whatever, but cant afford one.  We only have ourselves to blame for that. :Twocents:

We make fun of them from time to time but you have to give them credit for doing what they can with what they have. Although some of them spend enough money on their tuners to be able to afford a restored Charger by the time they're finished.

If there was ever a nopi show one around me,  I'd go... to look at the girls in bikinis  :yesnod:
Black Betty:  1969 Charger R/T - X9 440 six pack, TKO600 5 speed, 3.73 Dana 60.
Sinnamon:  1969 Charger R/T - T5 440, 727, 3.23 8 3/4 high school sweetheart.

I'd like to go to some of those shows... those guys have FUN; cars, bands, girls. Tired of Elvis and 50's tunes at the old guy shows around here.
1973 Charger : 440cid - 727 - 8.75/3.55

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
      a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable!

here is where I'm gonna look like an ass.

I was invited to go to NOPI with a import car club that wants me to be in it. They want an old school domestic. But I can't do it. I just can't put my car in a 90% import show. I honestly dislike most of the kids into that ricer crap. everytime I try to open my mind and be nice, it bites me in the ass.

They can have NOPI. I'll take Mopars at the Valley ;)

I agree.. Don't do it!!!  They have those NOPI shows here in New England all the time.  They draw alot of people and yes lots of women.  The reason why I will never ever ever ever go to one again is, because of this.

One day I went to a show and there was only 1 american musclecar there.  It was an orange 1970 AMX.  The car was totally bitching.  Wouldn't you know that every little pimple face ricer would pass by that car laughing.  They said it was too orange

Well to be devils advocate here, I hang out with some local import/mini truckers here. Everyone here is down to earth, and the tuner guys anyway are serious about performance. Most people are cool. The mini truckers are just crazy. I could tell you some stories.

Who cares if there are some that laugh at your Charger? I bet you anything the guys that laughed at the AMC didn't even have a car there. There are alot of knoledgeble, serious enthuasiast that just use different cars than we do. Just because it wasn't built here, or has half the cylinders doesn't mean we should be so closed minded to automatically qualify them all as ricers.  Given a choice, I'd rather put up with the dumb ass ricer than the "My S$#% dont stink" high class wannabe that come to some Mopar shows. There's one down here that has snubbed me twice. I won't say who, but his name rhymes with Jim Dellburn, and he's head of a certain museum here in Alabama. I've ran into my share of his type and could care less.

If you don't show the kids the light, how will they ever see the way? None of these kids here have ever seen a nice Charger, or Mopar muscle car. If they dont' know about them, then who buys our cars after the current generation dies?

I'll be out there, if all goes well.

I can see your point

Supercharged Riot

I like both Imports & Muscle cars.

THe import scene is more for me.  I can relate to more people in that croud because it spans more a variety of people of all ages. Naturally, theres more people of my age (& salary to own an import).  PLus there more girls :)

However, none of that changes the fact that a Charger is my favorite car of all time.
