trying to get the brake lines off of the value - having a hard time getting lines off - tried torching and tons of nut buster spray - any other suggestions??

Steve P.

Using a torch on a hydraulic system is not a good thing. The fluid will burn like hell and it's not so easy to put out. Good chance you'll torch your car as well.

I ONLY use line wrenches on any tubing fittings. An open wrench will slip and take the flats of the fitting and make them round.  If they are rounded out now you may as well get a good set of Vise Grips on them. Also if this is the case you will need to replace the lines anyway. I would just cut them and remove the valve. It will be much easier in a vise anyway.

New brake lines are not expensive and for the most part it is a good idea to change them. Our 30 something cars that still have factory lines can be rusty on the inside and you will not know it till they fail and you have no brakes..

Normally the only time anyone bleeds a brake system is AFTER they have had a leak. Bleeding SHOULD be part of normal maintenance.

I agree. I didn't know you planned to replace them all. Nor did I know you were planning to buy them pre-bent.  It just sounded like you planned to replace a few lines.

thanks for your help - i got all the brake line nuts to unscrew - need to order all the brake lines, propos value, master cylinder and brake booster.  not sure how to get the pre-bent lines on the car?? is there a special way to place lines onto car??    the hardest one is the one that goes from the front to the rear.  also - the front one that goes across to other side might be difficult to get off and place new one on.
any advice would help

Steve P.

Don't take the old ones off till you have the new ones in hand. That way you can make sure you are putting them on right and removing the old in full will show you how to install the new. They are not hard to figure out once you have them in hand.

Good luck........

sent my power brake booster to Mr. Dewey in washington - he is going to gold plate it for me and rebuild it for me - should take about 3 weeks before i get it.  still trying to look for propos value - mopart p&s has one for $79 dollars and inline tube has it for $95 dollars - also need new master cylnder and brake lines - trying to replace braking system - i think i will get stainless steel brake lines - also will need 3 rubber brake line hoses - 2 for the front and one for the rear - i think there is a clip set that goes with lines - lines don't look to bad but i will replace them anyway.

There are little clips along the frame rails that hold your lines in place.  They are like u shaped held in with one bolt,  I changed all mine on the Challenger not to hard at all.

just ordered SS brake lines, propos value, caliber brake hose and rear brake hose along with all clips from Mopar P&S - no tax and free shipping - can't wait to get them.  i just need to order a master cylinder and can begin to put it all together.  is there any tools out there for bleeding brakes??

FLG

Heres a good article about bench bleeding the master cylinder,

http://www.misterfixit.com/brakbld1.htm

And i would just gravity bleed the rest of the system.
