Anyone have pics of Charger painted "999" orange?

Still debating on colour to paint the Charger decided I'll probably pick something from 1969.  Looking at the chips there was a second orange 999 that I have not heard about.  Also does anyone have a link to a good set of paint chips for 69?  The ones I found online are very poor examples of what the colours actually look like.  Or does anyone know where I can get a sample of the paint chips?
No, it ain't a Hemi.....thank God!

Didn't the "999" code just mean a custom/special color? I didn't know it was a particular color.

Correct. You could order a custom color only on fleet cars I believe and the paint code was titled 999. The paint would be mixed on the assembly line floor.

While the parameters of the 999 special order paint mean that there were probably some unique orders that made a "one off", for some years, there were common 999 orders. 1968-1969 999 Orange cars would be one of these commonly order special colors. There were probably a few hundred 999 Orange cars built in 1968 and 1969. For 1968 and the beginning of 1969, these were Omaha Orange which is the same orange used to paint early 1964 race hemi's (Ditzler code DRA60436). At some point in the 1969 model year, the special order 999 Omaha Orange became the EK2 Vitamin C Orange which would be standard color for 1970. The is per a 4/7/69 TSB stating that beginning approx. Feb 1, 1969, EK2 "Vitamin C" Orange would be available for Belvedere models.

999 could be Omaha Orange, or a bright green color early on in 1969. By the mid year production these would both become standard colors that were available. Becoming V2 orange, and F5 green. However the shades of both were slightly changed. As the Omaha orange isn't exactly like V2 orange. Has a slightly different tint to it.

I have a photo around here of a 999 charger 500, but its not on the computer. It was a photo I took on 35mm, so I'll have to dig it out of a box, and scan it in.

I think the switch happened on the Plymouth line as that article implies, but there is no similar TSB for the '69 Dodge lineup (I have all the '69 DodgeTSBs for Passenger Cars AFAIK).  There are at least two Daytonas that were painted 99 99 (a/k/a 999, a/k/a Omaha Orange) special-order orange, and they were built in late June of 1969 - well past the changeover date to K2 Vit.C orange for Plymouth.

There weren't that many cars with that paint code, and with Chrysler's atrocious recordkeeping it's hard to say exactly when they started or stopped, or how many in total there were.

I think I have to add another line in my chart totals in the registry for this color... ;)

So Chris how many 999 Chargers do you have in the registry? I'm thinking of 5? Am I right? With 4 of them being for Omaha Orange, and 1 for the green?

Danny, I have 3 total 99 99 (for 69) cars registered........one Rallye Green R/T, one Bahama Yellow RT/SE and this Omaha Orange Daytona

The Omaha Orange was changed to K2 Vitamin C at 2/1/69. You have others codes like 95,96,97 & others. as far as I know these could be any color, Like off a 69 camaro or Grabber blue ford Mach 1. The original selling dealer invoice/paper work would denote exactly what color was used? LEON.

For Plymouth, but not Dodge -- as far as I know.  There are absolute, concrete examples of Omaha Orange (definitely NOT K2 GoManGo Orange) Dodges made long after the 2/1/69 changeover date for Plymouth.

You're right though, the original dealer invoice/paperwork should have called out any special order paint very clearly - but how many cars still have that sort of paperwork still around?  I sure wish my cars had theirs...   :rotz:
