i like the general, its a matter of taste simple as that.  when i see a yellow charger i dont think man another yellow charger theres just too many of those. the general just rubs some people the wrong way i guess........Mike

i think the JL is just fine, but i'm wondering when i see two "new" ones come out of the paint shop every week,..
on everything and anything..  :scratchchin:  :shruggy:

I guess I just don't care. As long as they aren't jumping them I am just happy someone is enjoying their car. I wanted a General Lee for years but as I get older my Tastes change, but is it any more sacrilege to paint a charger orange and put some decals on it than what I want to do? I want to go fuel injected modern engine with a modern drive train and paint it Bright Island Blue (a Ford color) with a comfortable modern interior. How come I don't get flack for doing this? I got the electronic bug from working on my LT1 impala and want to turn a charger into a fuel efficient high horsepower tire shredding machine, that I can drive across country without worry and without having to mortgage the house., now that is far more destructive to a piece of history than a paint job and a decal and I bet most here would applaud it when it is done. I guarantee it will be harder to make my car look like it just came off the line than it would be to redo a GL. Kinda seems silly to me to be that hung up on another mans car.

not really, But I think we get too many of these threads :nana:  :icon_smile_big:

nothing wrong with cloneing a car.

Are there too many R/T clones?
Are there too many Red Chargers?
Are there too many Black Chargers?

My Opinion here. There will never be too many DONE Charger  :2thumbs:

:shruggy: ok and what if there were 10,000 odd CMDL Clones running around on '68s '70s '72s and various sedans?..

Honestly, I don't care if everyone who owns a Charger painted it pink, took a dump on it and then drove it off a cliff.  It's none of my business.  Look at it this way.  If you own a 69 Charger and everyone else who has one makes a GL out of it, then jumps it and totals it, your car would be the last surviving 69 Charger and would therefore become pricless.  Everybody wins.

On a serious note I really wish we could get away from threads like this.  They can make General Lee fans and owners feel unwelcome.

Hey, to me, a Charger back on the road where it belongs instead of out in a field rotting away is perfectly fine for me, and it should be for a lot of us Charger folks.  No matter if it is orange, red, pink, purple, etc.  The main fact is it is alive and somebody out there somewhere is enjoying it for what it is worth :)

Mike DC

Other Charger fans don't complain when every guy off the street thinks their (regular) Charger is the most badass thing on four wheels.

Whether everyone wants to admit it or not, movie & TV roles like "Dukes" played a real role in that.  Hollywood roles had at least a little to do with it decades ago, and they're having more & more influence as the years go by.  Most gorgeous restored Chargers barely get driven enough for younger kids to even see them at all, much less ever make any tire-burning impression on them.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somebody will probably respond to this with, "My love for Chargers has nothing to do with "Dukes" and I wouldn't mind if the car had never been on the show."

I think that's beside the point, for better or worse.  The car is enjoying the extra continued respect & appreciation from the Hollywood roles whether everyone wants it to or not.  And most younger kids really DON'T have much chance to know these cars any other way these days, so I think the exposure is ultimately more a blessing than a curse.

I'll be that someone. I don't think I have ever seen a complete episode of the show. And let's keep it real, any self respecting true Dukes fan should be embarrassed about that horrific movie they made. That thing was god awful.

Truth be told, you park your regular Charger next to an 01 version, and you will get zero attention. People flock to the Dukes car at every show/cruise. I could care less how many get done. As long as they are '69 correct and have tan interior. The rest are all make believe.  :Twocents:

again. Then I would have stuck with my original paint idea of Orange with a white top and white stripe. I did my DMCL because I thought it was fairly original and fun. When I get bored with it, I'll take off the stripe, put a white top on it with a white stripe and call it a day.... ahhh the magic of vinyl. And when people get board with there GL clones. they can put a black top and a stripe as well. No love lost to me.

If I bought a GL clone. I would drive it, have fun with it, then remove the decals and do what I said. A GL clone is no different to me as an R/T clone. and i'm willin gto bet there are more R/T clones then GL clones.

and BTW:

that chick needs to wash her car

my purpose in asking this question is not to alienate the DOH fans, i think it's great, there's some really sweet Jenny Lees out there..
no doubt,.. some i'd be proud to have built. but i guess it may be an age thing,.. my love of chargers dates from 1966 when i was 9, i guess most JL owners didnt know what a charger was till they saw the TV show in what was it?..'78?..
this is a simple discussion not a put down... I'm just asking...

BTW: i drive mine alot harder then most folks probably do theirs and the hills here qualify as cliffs...  :D

Mike DC

Most of the diehard DOH crowd would really agree with you guys.  There are too many GLs out there right now.

I think most of us would rather see a small number of really good GLs in the hands of the diehards, rather than zillions of less-enthusiastic guys with money cruising GLs with mediocre accuracy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

And yeah, the 2005 movie was weak.
They did justice to the General Lee's muscle and to Daisy's cute round little ass, but they screwed up just about everything else.

Let's not even bring up the 2007 DVD release.
It was basically a terrible low-budget "American Pie" ripoff that had a GL parked in the background.

Wow, I cant believe how segregated this site has become.......I thought it was supposed to be about enjoying ALL chargers, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Gen,RT's, Daytona's, GL's, DMCL, Bullit...and yes even......NEW Chargers (Gasp!!!) who cares? Some of you guys are like a broken record on these topics...sheesh.

What happened to all for one and one for all? Brothers in arms? The more Chargers that get saved/restored the better I say - no matter what they are.......best damn muscle car on the planet...period
