Yup, the shifter comes out of the dash, kinda like on an A-100 pickup, and its an Auto-Stik.  Its not a standard PRNDL either-it stops at the "D" and if you want to use the low gears, you switch it to Auto-Stik mode.  Kinda strange to get used to but very cool anyway.

yup, its a Hemi :nana:   :icon_smile_big:  I havent broken it in yet (200 miles on it so far) so Im going easy on it but its surprised me a few times during passing.  Crown Vics are sloths compared to these cars.

Our state troopers are starting to use the 4 door Chargers. they do make for a tough looking cop car, especially when equipped with the push bar.
Dan, as a park ranger how many times per month are you involved in a high speed pursuit?

1.  Some of my best speed traps are in the grass

2.  I get into high speed pursuits as much as any other cop I guess.  Runs to Krispy Kreme and the BBQ buffet are especially high-priority.

How much road is there in your park? How did you ever convince them you needed a Hemi Charger when the v6 would have done the job?

That's a fun way to spend the day though! :drive:

outta curiousity, do people ever try to run from you in the park? Like to the boarder or anything? Just curous.

We have about 50 miles of paved roads, 25 of which is the Colonial Parkway that runs through Yorktown, Williamsburg and Jamestown VA and its pretty heavily travelled, plus I-64 runs parallel to us as do several other major roads.  Yes, bad guys run from us too-Park Rangers, Game Wardens, Conservation Officers, etc generally deal with all the same problems that city police officers do plus we have the thrill of dealing with rednecks deep in the woods with bigger guns than we have and we do it with little or no backup.  I always find it funny how little much of the public knows about what we do-I grew up in the outdoors so I was always around Rangers and man, they always scared the hell out of me!  To give yall an idea of what we do, heres what Ive done this week so far:  wrote 4 speeding tickets, arrested a guy for stealing crabs from a crabpot (we also have several miles of shoreline on the York and James Rivers)  did a search and rescue mission for a lost 12-year-old, investigated a rear-end collision, and provided security for a protest march adjacent to the parkway.    Most of our enforcement duties at Colonial focus on traffic control on the Parkway so we mainly run pursuit sedans, but we do have a Jeep and a Blazer for getting lost in the woods though.

To answer the Hemi VS V6 question, that was a big topic of discussion between me and the Chief when we were ordering the cars, since the six cylinder Charger will outrun a V8 Crown Vic.  There's not a big price difference between the six and the eight, maybe $800 per car if I remember correctly, but I think it mainly boiled down to bragging rights-we're the first department in the area that got Chargers so we had to do a little showin' off.

Neat pictures!

It'd be interesting to see if you realize any fuel savings with the MDS on the HEMI.

Of course, that's all up to the brain behind the right foot!  :drive:
