just bought a 73 se and i do not know what the best rear end to have. Id like a posi trac that would be compatible with a 318 and also what transmission for a automatic would work well?

positrack ?

Oh you mean SUREGRIP... POSI STUFF IS GM THERM :nono:

Lol is just a joke... WELCOME BTW

yeah you can install a suregrip on a 318 car.

tranny ? depend of torque you are looking for... stock 904 works good too. you could try to get also a 727 for Small block to handle more power if you think on get the 318 with more power. Anyway in my opinion 904 is able to handle even a Big block.

differential. 8 1/4 is mostly sure the one you have. that will handle lot of power including a stock BB. For an upgrade, maybe 8 3/4 will be better

Mostly sure everybody here will tell you to get a Big Block and 727... LOL, that works good too :P

no318

Nothing wrong with a 9 1/4, IMO.  I have one in a car and another out of a 72 coronet patrol car.  They are STOUT.  Just not super common. Is there a reason why no one wants to use them besides being unusual?

I had a NOS suregrip 9 1/4 housing and carrier assembly, but wasn't to be easy to find the rest of assembly down here ( axles, cover, brake line ) so I decided upgrade my 8 3/4
