600cfm carb on a 440 and intake questions?

I have a close to stock 440.  HP exhaust manifolds, milled cam.  My mechanic put a new 600cfm edelbrock performer on.  I thought he was going with a 750 but apparently not.  I quested it and he said it was like a stock replacement, is enough for the motor and would get good as mileage.  I have iron intake on it now, in shop for some other stuff and new kickdown cable. I'm wondering if I should Performer RPM intake on it while its in.  It this carb to small?  I'm thinking the intake may make a significant difference since the engine may be a little undercarbed, or does it work the other way around?

I think most people around here run 750 and up on their 440's.  But I did have a few places recommend 650cfm for a stock 440.  I bet the throttle response would be great on a smaller carb like that, but possibly at the expense of top end.  :Twocents:

I ordered the 1411 750cfm Edelbrock performer and Performer RPM intake.  :shruggy:

Search the forums for the Performer RPM intake information because there are hood clearance issues.  Since your motor is stock you could use the M1 Dual Plane intake instead if you wanted a new one and the RPM doesn't fit.

I had a 600 on a 440 once.  Exactly what Purple440 said, great throttle response, out of breath early.

Be sure to check the jetting, we tried a 525 demon on a 440 for the heck of it once. Great throttle respons, but in stock form it was way to lean.

Stepped up to an 800 cfm double pumper
