I am looking to pick up some extra big and small block 727 tourqueflights. However I was wondering if anyone could tell me what years to look for? ( are there numbers stamped on them that would tell me what year they would be. Also is there any way to tell what the ratio is by the numbers on the tranny? I am looking for 60's and 70's trannys.  I would also like to know what is a good overdrive tranny. I would just like to have some tranny cores put away before they are all gone.  any help is appreciated, Troy.

If you are just looking to pick up cores for speculation or whatever, they are all good.   If you are looking for date coded or part number correct pieces, then the waters muddy.  About the only cores that would give you any grief would be the short tailstock versions that came in motorhomes and some pickups.  And even those have some value to somebody somewhere.

The part number stamped in the drivers side pan rail will identify the year/application. Some years are listed here:

All 727's have the same gear ratios.

As far as the Mopar 518 OD trans, '95 and earlier don't need a computer so are best for retrofitting to earlier. The OD trans is small block only.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for the numbers guide. It is exactly what I was looking for. Also, thanks for the other info for retorfitting transmissions. Troy
