Does this tag say TT1? If so, what do you guys think of this green?

I hate to do this to you guys but a lack of funds tends to make decisions more arduous (more time to think about stuff). Anyway, after attending the Dodge Charger meet in Kent, WA I had the pleasure of seeing RTPTRON's TT1 '68 again and now my rock solid decision to paint my car black has been shaken. Granted, green is not my favorite color but I do like this particular shade of it.

I'm going to post a few pictures of TT1 Chargers and ask you to tell me what you think of them. My car is a '68/383/2bbl/4spd, was originally TT1 green and has no vinyl roof. I'll include some pictures of a non-vinyl top TT1 '68 below as a reference point. The first two pictures are of a car that recently sold on Ebay but I need someone to try and figure out if the tag says TT1 under the paint code. It looks like TT1 to me though.

And here are the non-vinyl top TT1 pics, allegedly original paint (I will most likely go with an R/T stripe, even though mine's not an R/T):

Charger-Bodie

well Bull my charger is black but there are getting to be so many black ones! I think tt1 is a very cool green myself!!
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

The tag looks like it reads "WW1" to me.  That would be white.  I tried taking it into Photoshop to 'tweak' it, but there isn't enough contrast.  If it's your tag, take it off the car and flip the tag over - you'll be able to read from the back side if it's TT1.

1BAD68

looks like YY1 to me or TT1
I dont think there is a YY1 paint code so it must be TT1.
I've also been thinking of painting my Charger green, just because it reminds me of when I was a kid a lot of cars seemed to be a shade of green, but it would definately need a black vinyl top because it really sets it off (green and black go great together) and my car is a no vinyl top car.  Go green

Charger_Fan

If RTPTRON doesn't mind being seen in public with his green Charger, you'd probably be ok too...right? ;D
I can't say if I'd go green myself if I had a car coded for green, I don't even wanna go back to my car's oroginal B3 blue. But regardless, once a car is restored & wearing nice fresh paint, even green ones look damned good. If you're anything like me, you'll be just as happy to drive that baby no matter what color it's wearing.  :icon_smile_cool:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Paint it what you want, but it takes guts to paint a car the way it came from the factory.  :yesnod:

Whatever you do, DO NOT add that body side moulding like in the first pic.  :o

There was a YY1 that is a medium tan, but I don't know if was available on Chargers.  It could read "YY1. :scope:"

Here's how I read the tag:
XP29: Dodge Charger 2 Door Sports Hardtop
61: 383cid 2-bbl V8
5: 3-Speed Automatic
43: 7.75x14 White Side Wall
426: April 26.

A1: 2.76 Rear Axle Ratio
C6D(?): Charger Trim Grade, Vinyl Bucket Seats. White on Green Interior. (not sure if that was a 'D' or not)
PNT?: TBD Paint.
U6: Dark Green Metallic Upper Door Frame Color.

25: Drip Rail Moldings
30: Body Belt Moldings
78: Wheel Lip Moldings

A1: 26in Radiator
H1: Power Brakes
R1: AM Radio
S1: Air Conditioning
X1: Tinted Glass (all)
Y6: Black Vinyl Top

a6: Console
b4: Bucket Seats
h7: Fender or Hood Mounted Turn Signal Indicators
m6: Driver's Outside Remote Operated Mirror

I say paint it whatever color you like.  I don't think you could find a more subjective topic than favorite color.  If you like the green - go for it! :2thumbs:

Unfortunately it's not my tag, just one from an Ebay sale, but the color looks close to Ron's. IIRC Ron told me that the green is off from the original shade because of the paint type. I like the look of Ron's green over the one that's supposed to have its original paint. Although the shade looks about the same I think the new types of TT1 paints have a lot of metallic.

I wasn't overly fond of the F7 green on my Chally. My daughter convinced me to buy it, her favorite color is green.Everyone that sees it says either they had one that color or knew someone that had a Mopar that color. But they all changed the it. I have to say it has grown on me in the last 3 years.

According to my '68 paint chart for Chargers, Coronets and Darts YY1 was an option.

Ahh, I gotcha.

FWIW, I like Ron's shade of green and I don't usually like green cars.  It's different.  You don't see that color all that often. :Twocents:

I personally am going to try and paint my car the factory color which is a green color (more of a forest green--71 charger).

Without. I don't really like them and it never came with one.

68charger383

It looks like WW1 to me:

The green car with the green vinyl top looks like a great color combination!

Off of Andy's 440 Webpage   http://www.andy440.com/tag.htm

The letter or number under "P" designates the color of the roof. The second letter/number under "N" is the body color. And you will either see a 1 or a 2 under the "T" . The 1 designates monotone paint and the 2 designates two tone paint. Here are some of the color codes:

A - Silver Metallic
B - Black
E - Dark Blue Metallic
F - Light Green Metallic
G - Racing Green metallic
J - Medium Gold Metallic
L - Dark Turquoise Metallic
M - Bronze Metallic
P - Red
Q - Bright Blue Metallic
R - Burgundy Metallic
S - Yellow
T - Medium Green Metallic
U - Light Blue Metallic
W - White
Y - Medium Tan Metallic
X - Biege
3 - Charger Red
6 - Dark Green Metallic
9 - Special Order

There aren't any factory two tone paint schemes on '68 Chargers are there? Unless they count the vinyl top color. Every paint chip on my '68 Ditzler/PPG chart chart has the letter twice (TT, WW, EE, MM, etc.) and then -1. The only ones that don't are "Corporate Red" and Corporate White." I don't recall seeing a 2 on any '68 Charger fender tags under the T.

68charger383

The site is based on his coronet, so it covers tags on almost all the dodges and is not charger specific. I guess some coronets came in two tone or had painted roof panels.

That tag says WW1 - white.

As for the green, there is no other colour for a 68-69 Charger, IMHO. Go for it....
