Are there some major differences, or things I should be wary of?
I am about to undertake the assembly of a 318.
I put my 383 together a few years back with the help of a rebuild book by Don Taylor, and people on this sight.
I ordered his book for the small block.

I am just installing the cam and crank this saturday, and may not have the book in time.
Are things pretty much the same?

If you can do one you can do the other.

The oil pump is inside the oil pan and there's no intake pan to fool with but other than that the basic assembly procedures are the same.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.

Have you ever thought about making a small block stroker.
This is one of my favorite threads on here

Your torque specs and sequence will be different.

:iagree:  Some minor differences with the oiling system but the assembly procedure is basicly the same.

Well the book is not here yet. I have the crank, pistons, and timing chain in. I am stuck at the timing cover because I cannot find an oil slinger in the parts box the maching shop gave me.
Should there be one or do small blocks not have this?

AmadeusCharger500

I got the book and it shows the oil slinger.

It also shows something else I did not do.
I installed the crank and torqued all the bolts but
I failed to offset the rear main seal, and run a bead if silicon along it.
Can I unseat the rear cap without loosening all the others?
