Well I got word Sunday that my freshly rechomed front bumper is on it's way and should be here soon so I decided to rip the original off today and dissasemble it in preparation for the new one.

Man what a job that was. I've never seen so many bolts on a bumper in my life.

I sure hope I don't ever have to do that again. I'm tired!!

I can relate. I am in the process of removing mine as well. The whole bumper, grill, grill support, lower valance is one big mess of bolts, screws, and assorted fasteners. Are you going to paint the bumper mounts and grill support before reassembly? Show some progress pictures if you can.  From one Gator to another.........

I'm thinking about painting the bumper mounts even though most of it is invisable after re-assy but it probably wouldn't be a bad move to have all that stuff blasted and repainted for corrosion protection.

Anyone know where I can get some new grill attachment hardware kit and perhaps a front bumper bolt kit for the 70 charger?  I just checked e-bay but couldn't find anything there except for the valance hardware kit.

Yes - this is one reason I HATE 70 chargers...    no offense guys but my 68 is a breeze...     had that 70 R/T in the shop and make me scream many times

hates a very negative word. There not that bad and they got some pretty cool available options. Like the gator grain top and the high back buckets

I love the 68 and the 69 too but I have a 70 and I'm just happy to have a charger.

I was sweating for a minute, I just did the rear on my 68 and was about to do the front next weekend (needs it bad)...that is until I read this thread and saw your pictures. However, Rolling thunder reminded me its not the same deal with the 68s...whewww

Try YEAR ONE of course and R/T SPECIALTIES for attachment hardware. Pictured below is "one" set of such hardware. $45. (YEAR ONE)

Does anyone know if the front sidemarker receptacle and pigtail is reproduced by anyone?

I'd take the bumper mounts and get them powdercoated at a local shop - they will usually blast parts for you - well at least the shop I use does.    I suppose POR-15 type stuff would work also but the stuff should get blasted for that also for best adhesion.

Replacing the outer chrome on a 69 (or 68 ) grill sucks also.    If I'd have thought about it more I'd have taken my bumper mounts to TCC while I was at it.     Maybe next time.

oh and the daughter forgot to mension the most important part of this project arrived today and was in the spare bedroom.

THE FRESHLY RE-CHROMED FRONT BUMPER!!!

I'm like a kid in a candy store again.

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!! Cant wait to get it all back together now!!!

I'm not aware of anything missing. If there was it didn't come with my car or it wasn't removed in the bumper removal.

Bumper reinforcement parts are all painted. 



Now on to reinstallation.

Any recommendations on how to get the bumper frame back into the bumper without distroying the fresh black paint?
I was thinking a 2 X 4, Some grease, and a big hammer.

That brace is only there on Chargers with front bumperetts. It is the lower attaching point.
As for being a pain in the ***, look at all the protection a 70 bumper provides for the grill. You can lean over the front of the car and not have to worry about cracking a grill.

Good to hear from you guys.
Thanks for the complement and it was a local unit up here (Marysville, Wa) that did my sandblasting called Alternative Blasters Corp. And yes. They do awesome work and have my parts done in less than a day. Decent price too. Only 35 bucks for all that stuff. Very happy with them. Always have been.
