Timing or carb too lean?

I have a 71 Charger with a 383 4bl Holley 670, Sounds great in idle and in gear just soon as I put some gas to her, she does a nose dive. She mellows out and everything when I get around 40 or so but before then just sounds crappie. Do I need to tune the carb more or adjust the timing? but she does start every time with out missing a beat. Sometimes when I turn the key to off she stumbles after, does this mean; too lean or timing? I will be working on these issues hopefully this weekend if not the next weekend.

Sounds like too much timing. Is it a pretty much stock set up? How much initial are you running? How much total?Vacuum advance? Not to savvy on Hollies, but it could be lean as well. But sounds like timing to me if it is stock.

20 over on the engine with a comcam  268, 3 angle valve job, rpm performer  headers, and the Holley 670
timing i'm not sure had it dailed in Alaska now its here in maryland, I know I need to retune the carb and play with the timing again since the sea level and everything. maybe this weekend end.

it may have to much timing I think she was running at around 820 rpm's  in April.  thanks for the info though,

As for timing ; 15* at idle would be a good starting point with 36-38* all in by 3000. You might have to rejet based on elevation change as well.

Well the carb was not really the problem, i need to get afew things a new distributor,a braket for the RPM, and put in the new wiring harness aswell. so now just have to order just afew things.
