Questions about varnish, and I'm not refinishing furniture

I've only heard about this once or twice but what I've been told is that if you run bad gas through and engine it'll get hot, burn poorly or not at all and create a varnish in the combustion chamber. I don't know how or why but if it's true how can it be removed short of scraping or grinding? Can it be burned out like carbon deposits?

SeaFoam brand works extremely well. The problem is that using it creates an amazing amount of smoke, so much that you really need to use it at midnight when no neighbors are out/awake so that no one complains or calls the fire department. I know that sounds funny, but I'm serious.

I use it once in a rare while for my cars, but I always use it prior to pulling an engine out as it makes internall clean ups much easier.

It works good.

Is It Ever Done, I assume you are pouring the foam straight strength into the carb while running to produce that much smoke rather than mixing it in the fuel tank??

I don't know about the Seafoam brand, but other chamber conditioners I've used have all been through the carb with the engine running and warm.  I agree about the smoke too and I'll add one that I fear more than neighbours and the fire department... my wife.  :o
