I've been told that you can look at your exhaust pipe tips and if you see a light grey soot on the rim it's a good sign for the air/fuel mixture.  Is that an old wives tale?  Either way, does it mean anything??

by the time the exhaust has made it that far, coupled with the humidity that you burn out of your pipes depending on where you live, dust, soot, et cetera... I'd say that was 80% old wives tale and 20% truth

If you use race gas (105+ octane)  the inside of your tips will be light grey

I thought it was leaded fuels that turn it light grey?  (which most race fuel is of course)

I've been using 110 octane, so maybe that's it.

All my F.A.S.T. racing series buddies use Rockett brand fuel & their tips are shiny on the inside & out ;)
