San Fernando Valley heats up, rest of country freezes
By Dana Bartholomew, Staff Writer
Updated: 01/08/2010 03:09:45 PM PST

A winter sun has turned the San Fernando Valley into the hotspot of the nation this week as the rest of the U.S. freezes.

The Valley took the high honors from Tuesday to Thursday with temperatures hovering around 80 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

At 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, Chatsworth trailed just behind downtown Los Angeles, at 79  degrees.

"I think we have a real good chance for the hottest spot in the nation (again)," said David Gomberg, an NWS meteorologist in Oxnard.

:hah:
Gomberg said the Southern California winter heat wave has come at the expense of Midwest temperatures plunging to 40 degrees below.

High pressure above the Great Basin desert has caused a mild Santa Ana wind condition in Southern California. The offshore breeze prevents cooler breezes from blowing onshore.

At the same time, the pressure zone has chilled the Midwest with temperatures as low as -39 degrees in West Yellowstone, Montana.

On Tuesday, Whiteman Airport in Pacoima was the nation's hotspot at 81 degrees. On Wednesday, Chatsworth, plus Simi Valley and Fillmore in Ventura County, were the hottest.

Then Burbank, Chatsworth and Northridge smoked the nation Thursday at 80 degrees in a tie with Riverside and San Diego's Wild Animal Park.

Seems like we hit our June cycle already with humidity and lots of storms.  Jumped from cold to hot with no in between.  The berries don't know what to do.

Science is just observation and hypothesis.  Policy stands in the way.........

Or maybe it protects us.

I suppose it depends on the specific case.....
