I am in the middle of a full rotisserie restoration on my 1968 Charger RT and  am having a difficult time finding direct information regarding restoration colors on certain components. I am using Eastwood paints on some of these components with great results and will share pics and information of what I have discovered works. Has anyone used the Eastwood paints on the front suspension pieces???  I have both the detail gray and the spray gray and am not sure which would be the correct tones on what???? I have had the pieces soda blasted and epoxy primed and are ready for paint but want to make certain i am painting them the right colors. Help??? Insofar as the blacks underneath, Chrysler calls for 30 degree gloss black on many pieces but cannot find a match to that. There is something we all could use in a restoration, HUH???? I understand it to be a semi gloss but some of the spray cans like Duplicolor are  really only about 15 to 20% gloss. I have been using Duplicolor acrylic enamel in semi gloss and like the end results better than the underhood black Eastwood has. Anyone got a better product they have used and like. As you can see I am stumped by some of the complexities of wanting it right and hope someone has been in my shoes and has some advice.  :brickwall:

I redid my front suspension using Eastwood products.  I made a thread called front suspenison rebuild, or something like that and I am pretty sure that I noted what colours I used.

There are two good book out there that might be worth picking them up.  I have both of them and refer to them often.

The second one is great for checking parts numbers!

Thanks. I have them both and my wife thinks I might as well be looking at porn. I don't get it ;D

You stated you want it right...If you want it factory right none of the front end components were ever painted. The were either bare metal, plated or dipped in a rust preventative such as Cosmoline etc.

K-Frames were around a 15-20% (give or take) flattened black. They were originally dipped. Torsion bars were a full gloss (Dipped as well). Radiators were around 10-12%.

A lot of stuff in the Paul Herd book is wrong - Don't follow it. The other book I have never read but would be wary about that as well. The best thing to do is to look at every survivor you can and take a lot of pics.

Cheers.

You are right in that you just need to find a survivor or someone who took the time to do it right. Paul Heards book has some correct items and the other book is helpful in some areas, but not correct in documenting and creating an authentic car. Thanks. Alot of trail and error and words of wisdom. An expert never stops learning...

Project Charger book is crap, nowhere near a correct restoration. Charger, Road Runner and Super Bee Restoration Guide is excellent for part numbers and what and what doesn't go on diff years.

I'll email you an excel spreadsheet detailing the colors of each component for a '68 R/T. Let me know if it helps any.
