Wiper motor question

My wiper motor was reinstalled and the armature was not attached on my 68 Charger.  I got under ther and attached the armature with a slip ring and now when the motor runs it hits a nut a sticks.  I need to immediately turn off wipers or motor will burn out.  I cannot figure this out as there only seems to be one way wiper motor and surrounding parts can fit.  What did I do wrong when I put this back together after painting?  Help!
