"The New Chrysler"...

Everyone notice the advertising blitz going on today now that the takeover is official? Heard ads for it on the radio, they're on the Yahoo home page, and saw one in the newspaper. They're really pushing the new lifetime warranty deal, and also talking about "the next hundred years"

They even brought back the Pentastar....I hope that doesn't mean we're in for a redux of the K-Cars....

If that Nardelli guy is anything like many of the other ex-GE-under-Welch folks, Chrysler just might be in good hands.

But did you notice the 1st Gen Charger in one of the new ad's... just a breif shot of the dash, and another shot of the console shift. It pops into the clip when they start to mention the first muscle cars... it's just a flash really, but it's still pretty cool that they used a Charger in the ad.

I got an invite to some event at the dealer where we have purchased our cars. I'm sure there are lot of these invites to this "exclusive" event but they do say they will be giving away a car....

Afflyer

I got an "invitation" in the mail today from Chrysler in celebration of the next "100 years."

I was through Auburn Hills on Sunday and noticed there is an enormous banner going down the whole length of the main tower that says something watch the next hundred years.

I'm glad to see that the Pentastar is back. And I have nothing against the K car. Better than the Creeder any day.

They brought the pentastar back but it will only be on signs, facilities, and marketing materials - not on cars. It's a 3D logo but I haven't seen it yet. The new CEO has some interesting history.

I've noticed the difference in ads too, but haven't paid attention to whether there were more of them or not. (I try to ignore all ads.) I think the lifetime warranty offer won't be around too long, but just around long enough to grab attention. Truth is, the lifetime warranty will probably have restrictions to it, like having to bring it in to the dealer at whatever intervals or it's voided. Another thing might be that it's prorated & only a portion of what it needs is covered.

I could be wrong, but in my past experiences with any warranty that sounds great, it's usually just hype by salespeople. They hope they can snag a customer who doesn't read fine print & simply believe what they are being told. An example would be when my wife bought her first new car 20 years ago, a 1988 Mustang GT. They went overboard on trying to sell her an extended warranty on the car, & a lifetime warranty on the rustproofing. I convinced her to pass on the extended warranty, but get the rustproofing so the car has better protection.

The rustproofing warranty required that she bring the car back to the dealer to have the coating (Under coating) inspected & reapplied if necessary. This wasn't free at all, & was supposed to be done on a regular basis, maybe annually, to keep the lifetime warranty valid. Neither of us cared whether she ever had the rustproofing reapplied, but only that it was on the car. The car was fine & the body was still nice when she traded it in 6 years later on another car. It never broke down either, so the extended warranty we didn't get wasn't needed.

Anyone have the details on Chrysler's "fine print" to the lifetime warranty?

Define "interesting."

You mean the deep ugly cost-cutting he did when they hired him at Home Despot, and then his escaping with a $200+ million severance package just a couple years later?

Oh yeah, he's a charmer.

Went into work yesterday (3.7 engine plant) and they were passing out cake and little pentastar pins.  Not as cool as the swatch watches when Daimler took over but hopefully the future will be brighter.  I think it will help having some fresh non automotive consumer oriented people running the show.

Note that Bob Nardelli is NOT a car guy.  This says something about Cerberus's intentions.  He has a checkered past.  He was run off at Home Depot.  I think right after the last board meeting where he didn't bother to show up because he didn't want to face the shareholders.  As has been mentioned, he is one of Jack Welch's boys from GE.  Welch was ruthless as far as employees were concerned.  Nardelli is closely tied to the Bush administration just like others at Cerberus so maybe they just gave a job to one of their own.  It sure sounds like Cerberus is going to try to do a two or three year shape up by kicking ass and taking names and then sell off the pieces.  I really don't think they are in this for the long term.  I guess we will see.  One think of interest is that Nardelli does own three Chrysler cars in addition to his other vehicles.  One is a Prowler.

I don't know if there is any truth in this but I heard that for the "lifetime warranty" to remain in effect, you have to have authorized service performed every 7500 miles and documented.  At dealer prices, that would cost a fortune.  Not sure if you are allowed to do the service yourself.  And if so, how do you officially document that it was done?  Keep receipts?  Also, I don't think the lifetime deal applies to SRT vehicles.

Right now I'd rather have someone who's not a car guy in charge than some know-it-all car guy from Germany making cars he thinks look good and slapping classic American name badges on them.

I just got my invite in the mail today and I'm glad to see the company is not bragging about how awesome the '06 "Charger" is. In fact their timeline makes no mention of anything worth noting in 2006 but readily touts the return of the Challenger. This is a very good sign indeed. Hopefully they'll either scuttle the Charger entirely or reshape it into a two door muscle car that doesn't look like a$$.

I have been hearing all the same crap about splitting off parts of chrysler and selling them since i have been here (13yrs).  Can't do anything about the future so I don't worry about it, just happy to have the germans out.............

Speaking of used cars!

Andy- you and I need to chat!  I'll be looking at getting into an '05 or an '06 2WD 2500 Quad Cab, Cummins with an auto transmission and towing package with limited slip ass end, in the $25K range.  Think I can get lucky and swing into a Mega Cab in that range? God- I love that extra room back there!  The wife says around October time frame, just before we head out west to New Mexico.

I put a Pentastar on the lower right front fender of my Neon when I got it in 2000 and on my Charger Daytona when I got it last year.  Its the silver stick on kind, just like the new logo.  (pics below).  I hope they decide to put it inthe traditional place like the 60's and 70's.  Maybe one day.   :scratchchin:
