Wheels of Terror

My husband thinks that I should get rid of my Charger.  He says that "it's too expensive to restore","you can get a better one". and it's better for parts" . I am restoring my Charger. I work on it. I know more about cars then he does. He tells me that, "it's a piece of junk" and that "you have to be rich to restore a car like the people on the board." :o You guys have seen my Spring Special. what do you think? I am very excited about restoring it. I had just bought a 74 Rallye Dash for it, amongst some other things. I have only had it since May. While I do have 3 other cars, i am not rushing this one. Plus he told me that i can't sell any of them??? :eek2: I see that a lot of you guys think that some Mopars in scrapyards are definitely restorable. I am heart broken. It is almost as if to keep the peace, I have to sell it. He doesn't understand that these things take time. He made fun of me because I can't find quarters(yet).i enjoy this car in the condition that it is in now. It makes me excited to think about what it will be like when it is done. I'm sorry for the long winded post. I just need to hear from other gearheads.

how did you end up with him again?? lol. here i am wishing my wife was more into it(the charger hobby), and there you are dealing with a rare case of role reversal. keep your car and work on it. screw him. to keep the peace.. buy him a barbie doll and tell him to play with it every time you go drive your CHARGER! better yet, when you get it done, make him ride with you and make him watch the reactions you get from other guys as you drive such a cool car. that should get under his skin a little...

You know I'm a girl and I'm not rich. I just did mine a little at a time, as I could afford it. You gotta do what makes you happy. There came a point where I almost sold mine. But a very good friend talked me out of it. Did you explain to him how much the Charger means to you ? I've had mine for a little over 3 years now and it's still not done. Tell him to be glad you didn't buy an e-body. Check the prices on parts. :icon_smile_tongue: Besides, if I had any man tell me I had to sell my Mopar he'd be sleeping on the sofa.

69bronzeT5

I say ignore what he says and keep on restoring it. Hes probally jealous because he drives a Toyota or something :D. And half of us arent as rich as he thinks. Im still trying to figure ways to get money to fix my Charger. And like Jackie said, he must not know how much the car means to you. :Twocents:

Several years ago, I was in my garage working on one of my cars when the old lady came out with this pissed-off look on her face. She then said the following:  When are you going to get rid of all of this junk and GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE ?  After thinking for a few seconds I replied: This "junk" IS MY LIFE, but if you really want me to, I'd be glad to go back to what I was doing for fun before I got back into the whole old car thing. Her reply was OH YEAH! What's THAT?  I said: You remember, Partying every night with my friends, getting into fights in bars, riding motorcycles and chasing pu#$y all over the place, you know - the way I was when I MET YOU ! She turned around and went back into the house and has never mentioned me getting rid of my cars again...

Most of my family has been telling me to get rid of my Charger for 20+ years.
My wife (married 10 years in January) has really only been on my a$$ about it to speed it up and get it done.
She want to go to some car shows in it.

Money is the biggest issue in any hobby, you either can afford it or not.
Over the last 5 years I have spent about 15,000 on my Charger. In the next 5 years I will probably spend another 15,000. Obviously I wish I could afford to just drop the last 15,000 and get it done however I probably would not have as mush fun on my hobby getting to the end game in a short time.

Now on the other hand I have two cousins that have horses and my mom and sister use to also have horses. To them these horses are a hobby. They spend $300 to $400 a month to take care of these animals (not including vet bills).

Then there are others that I know who spend there money on recreational substances.

Everyone has there hobby and they all cost money. You just have to decide what makes you happy and how you want to spend your money.

Restoring and working on cars (for most of us) is not a money making venture or retirement plan but a hobby that makes us happy, even if its just walking out into the garage looking at our car patting it on the hood and saying HI it makes us happy. Its our hobby.

I say as long as you can afford it and it makes you happy then the answer is clear.
If you can't afford it and you are missing out on necessities then the answer is also clear.
If its going to cause you to get a divorce and you love your husband then your screwed.

A 3rd gen is still affordable to work on.  You obviously love the car.  I would explain to him that you need a hobby...  Hell its not like you are out every night in the bars.  Sounds like he needs to relax a bit.

I bought my 73 in 2000. I spend money on it when I have it.I'm not rich like most people on this board. It is one of those things that doesn't have to be done by tomorrow. It's a hobby. Ask your hubby if he would rather you got out to the bars every night and pick up guys.Tell him at least he knows where you are in your spare time and working on the Charger keeps you honest.

I agree, loss the loser. The only time i get grief from my wife about my car is when I don't drive it. this past june when I lost my car to a garage fire, she kept me going to get another, and she made the 700 mile trip to bring it home.when added a few extra stops for our annivesary. as long as I show her the same attention, she's fine with my car. and she's the one that booked the room for The Nats this year when I was only going for one day.

Charger_Fan

Does your husband have any material things that are near-n-dear to him & make him happy? GOOD, tell him to sell them, you're tired of them taking up space!  :icon_smile_evil:

My wife has NEVER EVER said I should get rid of my toys, that part has ALWAYS been left up to me! She supports me, goes to car shows and model shows and NEVER EVER gives me garbage about my hobbies, Ya know why? SHE KNOWS it is WHO I AM! And she ACCEPTS ME for WHO I AM and loves ME for WHO I AM!

You husband needs to get a clue and learn to be a man and be a PART of your life instead of trying to control it.

The70RT

:iagree: With ALL theses posts. Lot's of good points. I think most here on the board have spouses that are ok with what we are doing or we wouldn't be with us.  Like I was saying in another thread about being pushed out of the hobby - it is how bad do you want it.....that was a money thing though but similar. If you love cars you just don't bow out no matter what.  I haven't heard too much about members saying my spouse made me sell it. The car hobby is different than other hobbys. You get attached to cars more than other material things......at least I do. In other words my motto has always been - Tell em like ya smell em. If he don't like it then tell him to kiss yer  :moon:  :Twocents:

Tell your husband that once he starts meeting your needs the way the Charger does you will CONSIDER selling it (of course we all know that can never happen).  Seriously, you need to lay it on the line to him how important this car is for youor personal happiness.  Unless he has never spent money on his own personal happiness that dedn't appeal to you, he has no room to talk.

If that fails, tell him you are selling the other three cars and you would sell him too if he was worth anything.  You are ging to take the money and take your Charger on a cross country road trip with someone from the board who feels your passion.  Also tell him you expect him to have al of his stuff out of the house when you get back.

If he doesn't understand that your happiness can lead to his happiness I think he needs some remedial training.
Best of luck with the car, and remember, as much as you will enjoy driving the car when it is done, the joy and satisfaction of having done as much of it as you could yourself is just as important.

BTW, I wish I was rich and not wondering how I need to cut up each paycheck to keep the wolves at bay.  Priorities is where it is at

I say if you love the car DO NOT sell it. I sold my 73 rallye a few months and I regret it, but I was moving and it would haft to be stored outside and that could not happen people love to steal parts. Also I know where you can get allot of 3rd gen body parts go to this website http://www.autobodyspecialt.com then click on chrysler parts then look for 1966-1974 dodge charger and click on the 1971-74 Body Parts & Repair panels. THey have a bunch of stuff. Hope you keep her

Nacho-RT74

Note:
a dealer I'm dealing right now told me he gets 73/74 quarters from goodmark.com

340magnum, she already called to autobodyspecialties and gave us the good news will come out with full quarters on fall next year.

now about the problem itself:
Rich ? HAHAHA... I'm not, but that's the reason for sure took me 8 years to get it like it is now... and I'm still not satisfied, so mostly sure il ttake 1 or 2 years more.

So now a woman is getting the same sensation some guys around get with wifes ? :P

another solution... an advice tipically given on board but backwards... kick your husband a$$. LOL

you can allways choose a single guy from the board LOL

I would like a sexy body with me. Just send pictures first. Make sure you have plenty of body shots.

Oh, and engine shots too. If you would like to stand in the picture, that would be ok.    ;)
