i just recently had work done on the engine.. i put a roller cam into it.. and its bored over .60 and it had a 850 holley on it.. so i guess the rear end couldnt handle it so any suggestion

What rearend did you have in it?  Possibly 8 1/4?  I would suggest building an 8 3/4 way before a Ford 9 inch.  You can make it just as stout as a 9 inch.  If that doesn't do it you could go with a Dana 60 (9 1/4 rear).  Ford 9 inch?  No way man!

What he said.....use an 8 3/4 or build a Dana (9 3/4) if you plan or racing it lots. See if you can identify the rear end that's in the car now.

I too would recommend doing a 8 3/4 rearend.  Before a Phord 9".  I did a swap about 2-years ago.  I also chose to find a axle housing that was the exact same size as my 8 1/4" rear I had in it then.  I put some new Strange axles in it, green bearings, a 742 case with new 3:91 Moser gears and suregrip unit.   It made the swap very easy.  Everything aligned back up perfectly.  I did not have to worry about perches or anything.  And I was able to reuse the brake assemble from my 8 1/4" rear.  Thats diffentely the way to go.

I went from having a 8 1/4" rear with 2:73 gears to a 8 3/4 rear with 3:91 suregrip.  Talk about night and day difference.  It felt like a 100 horse increase in power! :icon_smile_big:

Is the car an automatic? Were you under power in 1st gear when the rear end failed?

If so, it would be wise to check the sprag in the trans; they often fail when a rear end grenaded in 1st gear.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

dont go with the ford rear infact, i have heard alot of ford/chevy guy's use 8.3/4 or dana rear ends also lets not forget what ford stands for: federation of rusty dogs or backwards...driver return on foot
