I Lost A Friend Last Night.

I would like to take a minute to say goodbye to a dear friend I lost to Cancer last night. I first met him when I was 10 or 11 years old, riding my bike around the neighborhood my grandma lived in. I had noticed this familiar car, which this old man was meticulously waxing, like he did every weekend, in his driveway one day and decided to stop and talk to him about it. This car.... was a 68 Charger and was identical to the one my grandpa was driving, and I currently own today, right down to the passenger side mirror option. Same color, same engine/trans., same everything. Long story short, that was over 23 years ago and we have been friends ever since. As I got older, I got to ride aroud with him on his Sunday drives to keep Big Red loose. Thats what he called her. In the last couple of years, I would help do tune-ups on it, change his oil, etc...because his health had started to decline. He was a Vietnam veteran, a loving husband, father, and grandpa, and to me one of the best friends anyone could ask for. Aside from his family and friends, his 68 was what he loved the most and it showed until he passed. I'll miss you Bob.

Yep I've seen a few people get taken down by the big C. Hopefully the car will continue to be properly cared for. although many times other members of the family swoop in like vultures to grab whatever they can, especially something as valuable as that car. They play it off as being "sentimental value" but often times it is just greed.....seen it too many times. Hopefully the car will be in good hands.

The bugle sounds the charge begins. But on this battlefield no one wins.

I'm so sorry for your lose of long time friend.  I'm always personally touched by a lose to cancer.  I lost both my parents to cancer before I was 18.  Whenever I can I donate to the American Cancer Society to hopefully find a cure.  It's not much, but hopefully it helps.  I hope you find peace with your friends passing.

If it ain't wide open; it ain't running.        Rule number one in motocross racing: Pin it; row the gear box; and wait until you hit something.     At work my motto is: If you need me, call someone else.

What a beautiful car, you can sure tell he took great pride in that baby. :yesnod:
Cancer is never a good way to go. My sympathies go to you & his family. :pity:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I'm also sad to read about the loss of your buddy Bob...
I've lost five close family members to cancer in the past ten years and two more to "other causes"..

a question about the charger though,.. since they are so similar, are the Vins close to each other?..

41husk

Sorry for the loss,  I hope his family cares for the car as your friend did and would want.

All the more reason to keep his memory alive, Keep driving it, and sorry for loss :yesnod:
Earth. Even the word sounded strange to me now... unfamiliar. How long had I been gone? How long had I been back? Did it matter? I tried to find the rhythm of the world where I used to live. I followed the current. I was silent, attentive, I made a conscious effort to smile, nod, stand, and perform the millions of gestures that constitute life on earth. I studied these gestures until they became reflexes again. But I was haunted by the idea that I remembered her wrong -Solaris

Sorry about your loss.
I think it's cool that you stayed friends for so long.
Some kids meet a cool person when they are 10 or so but by the time they turn 16 they are gone and only have friends their own age.
Good luck Man

Thanks everyone for your sympathies. He would be honored.
