I Got A Problem With My 68 Charger. It's a 383 auto column shift and i havent driven it in a week or 2(too hot to drive it) I Parked it with 1/2 tank and now The Gas Gauge Went To E on me last night when I drove it 1/2 mile. What Could Have Caused This?

well from what it sounds like....the gas gauge is messed up or hotness makes gas evaporate :icon_smile_wink:

could the cables in the back of the instrument cluster have come undone for any reason?

Sounds like the sending in the tank to me...

If its only the fuel gauge acting up then really only a couple options.  Gauge. Wiring from gauge to tank. Sending unit. Sending unit ground.
Easy to check.  Slide under the car pull the wire off the sending unit. Find a good ground point and ground the wire.  Does the gauge go to full?  If it does its not the wiring or the gauge.  Next check the ground. Its usually the cheesy ground strap that goes from sending unit to the fuel line. Reconnect your lead wire to the sending unit and Provide an alternate ground with a jumper and see if the gauge goes back to your half full mark.  Assuming you fuel tank is half full of gas. If it does improve your ground.  If it does not then you've narrowed it down to the sending unit. Hope this helps, Mike

Unless of course someone siphoned your tank empty and you didnt look at the gauge until 1/2 mile down the road.   :scratchchin:
