Who cares. I have never bought a car thinking about what it could be worth at some point. The day I start thinking that way, will be the day I stop loving the hobby and think of it as a business instead of something I love. That's just me though, no need to take my words as the gospel...although I am always right and usually correct.  :P

For once I'll agree with Chris. only kidding, the only thing I've read that he types that I don't agree on is which year Charger is the best.

That aside, I don't love these cars for what they are worth. I could care less if the value of my car drops to $200 in the next 10 years. I will still love it the same. I love it for what it is, not for what price tag it wears.

Just my  :Twocents:   Once the muscle car wars heat up again...(Mustang, New Challenger, new Camaro)...as well as TV coverage of muscle cars (overhaulin, B-J coverage, and Wrecks to Riches) slows down... the muscle cars prices are likely to come back down.  How far...that is anyones guess.     But if someone can go buy a new RWD car with some real American HP and a warranty that works great for an everyday driver, for less than what a 60-70's car costs to buy/build.  A lot of people will go that route.  Me.... I would like to have both a new and old muscle car!!  :yesnod:

I hope they never go up, so I aint tempted to sell one of mine.

These cars will probably hold their value, although I don't think they'll climb up as dramatically as they did from the 1980's up to the present.  You can spend $35K building one new, so I doubt the flawless ones are gonna be dropping too much below that level for a while.

Gasoline prices?  It'll piss us off for sure, but I doubt it will ever affect things too much.  Most of these owners invest many years of their lives and tens of thousands of dollars, and then the finished car only gets driven twice a month.  These guys aren't all gonna turn around and sell their beloved cars the first time they have to pay $75 or $100 for a tank of gas.

I see two factors in general that may have a LOT to do with musclecar values:

--  Musclecars appeal to several generations.  These things are sought-after by every car guy born between about 1945 and 1985, and some more fans are even younger than that.  So I think they'll hold onto top billing a lot longer than previous generations of "old" cars have.  I mean, 1950's cars didn't have tons of young impressionable teenagers still lusting after them when they were 20-30 years old.  Musclecars did have that.

--  But the economic situations of the entire working & middle classes in the U.S. don't look so great in the long term.  I'm not gonna talk politics here, but we can probably all agree that the prime car-guy group has been gradually losing spending power & losing good jobs in the long term.  It looks like it's only gonna get worse to me, and eventually that's gonna decrease the amount of money that is being put into the car hobby as a whole.  (I think this issue may eventually crimp this hobby a lot more than higher gasoline prices.)

Exactly, when I got my car...I didnt care what it would be worth one day. All I cared about and do still care about is the moment I can finally drive it. :Twocents:

The good thing about these cars costing too much is that the reproduction parts will keep coming. If the prices drop dramatically you'd better start buying all the parts you need, pronto.

In ten years my car will still have a 318 in it.  It will only be worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but that won't be enough, cause I got alot of money into it.  So, I think when I die instead of buying a coffin I'm gonna get buried in it

and that is the truth

I keep each of the cars in my collection for different reasons; sentimental family car, fun car to drive, first restoration... I would never keep a car based on numbers.
Cars owned:
1968 Dodge Charger, 48k orig. miles, family owned since new.
Not a Hemi, a mini-hemi 340.

they can go up or down now. i don't care.. they shot up at the perfect time for me(1998-2006) and i was able to put a collection together i never thought possible because of their rising values   :drool5:  .. it all happened in the couple years just before the barrett-jackson over hype, and before EVERYONE had a computer with ebay completed items check. the deals are over now. sure there may be one once in a blue moon come along, but not 1-2 a month like before.. i know from what you guys have seen of me, you probably think i view chargers as a business, not as a personal love. but that's ok. i did what i did and it helped/hurt the hobby at the same time(not that i helped raise values by more than .0000001% though). but i don't regret it. i am just an average guy and would have never had 9 NICE chargers all paid for had it not been for the hobby
WHEW there i got that off my chest.   :nana:

That's what I figured.  Plus, it's always good to get rid of it before the emotional value sets in, but do you ever have regrets later on selling one of your beauties?

69charger2002

most of the ones i have sold over the years were not the "beauties".. i'd say 120 of the 160 or so mopes i've owned/sold have been projects.. so qith no emotional attachment i never felt regret. though i wish i coul dhave kept them all.. it wasn't feasible
