Mine came with the 3.54 but I changed it to a 3.73

I also have the Dana, power front disc brakes, pwr steering w cooler, etc.

You can see the power steering cooler in the pic just in front of the right valve cover. Was this a pretty common item? I don't see too many.

I believe the power steering cooler was standard on cars with any gear ratio from 3.54(3.55) and up.

I've looked for that explanation for a while now, and haven't found anything definitive.   The Federal-style PS pump I bought and installed on my orange car was pulled off another '69 hemicar, and it doesn't have the cooler on it.   You'd think most of those cars had at least 3.54 gears in them, but it could be that it was pulled from a 3.23-geared automatic trans car     :shruggy:

I think you're right about the higher gear ratio cars getting the coolers, but I don't know what the threshhold was.

BTW az, you can chalk one more up under the 440/3.54 column, since the Daytona has that combination. I could only vote once.  Chris (Just 6T9) might chime in with some info he has from the registry too ??

We had the cooler discussion a while ago.  From what I recall 3.54(3.55) was the point at which the cooler became standard.

Did the max cooling or trailer towing package also include this?

I have a factory triple black 4 speed RT/SE 1969 Charger that I'm working on.  It is a 440 car and it came with the A33 package. It also has power windows which is pretty cool option.

I have a factory Trak Pak 440/4spd 1970 Charger R/T! Originally FE5 Red...But I painted it black!   :yesnod:

I did not realize the super trac pac came with a power steering pump cooler, when I got mine in 79 if it came with one it was not there so some one must have removed it.
But I also ask why would you need to cool your steering by having 4:10s????????. I also had a friend who had a 440 R/T super trac pac with manual steering on it.

One theory is the lower gear ratio's results in higher engine rpm which then spins the power steering pump more creating increased heat.

bullit, I remember you posting about your car on the other site.  It will be awesome when it's done, for sure.  It's one of the few St. Louis-built Hemicars, right?  Didn't it also have a transplanted 440 in it at one time?

I know PS was never coded on the fender tag, but do you know if your car was originally a PS car, and whether the pump (should have been a Federal-style pump) had a cooler on it?  I honestly don't remember if the Federal (round neck, 3/8" threaded hole in main shaft) pumps ever had a cooler with them or not.  '69 Hemi's all got the Federal style pump is why I'm curious.

Also, some of the options you've mentioned on your car were certainly available on 1969 Track Pak/Super Track Pak cars, but were not a part of the respective equipment packages (Power Steering & tach were optional for both, PDBs were mandatory only with the Super Track Pak).

Okay, mine is a Hemi Super Track Pak with the max-cooling option and it has a Saginaw pump without the cooler.  Any takers on that?
