If they really want to attract customers, they really should concentrate on building cool looking cars (I.E. 2 door cars) and trucks instead of butt ugly 4 door ones. The Challenger is a start, but the rest I would never even consider buying.  :rotz:

I would agree to a point, the chrysler line of mini vans have been an industry leader and helped keep the Co. afloat for many years.  There aint much cool or sporty about them, but there is a market that they have served.  I feel they have failed at seving the sport style buyer for some time.  The cool cars thet have developed, Viper, prowler, and crossfire, are all in a price range that does not meet the market.

2 door cars dont sell good. A good portion of new vehicle purchases is for transportation. They are not really concerned with the "cool" factor. As cars have become smaller in size 2 door models are a pain to get in and out of. 4 door cars are the way to go.

"The problem that just won't go away for Detroit.

Detroit. One of the clear strategies of the new Cerberus-owned Chrysler is now emerging, and it revolves around the noble, even Quixotic notion of slashing Chrysler's dealer roster, according to The Wall Street Journal. This isn't exactly news, however, as the domestic automakers have been on a crusade to reduce their bloated dealer totals for at least five years now. The Cerberus-directed Chrysler is couching it in terms of going after "underperforming" dealers, but make no mistake - this is about cutting the number of Chrysler dealers, period, because Cerberus knows that failing to do so will negatively affect their fundamental ability to make money.

Chrysler, like Ford and GM, is simply strapped with too many dealers. The numbers for the individual dealer totals for each domestic automaker currently stand at around 3,700 for Chrysler, 4,200 for Ford and a whopping 6,900 for GM. These figures are literally two-and-one-half times the number of dealers that these companies need in order to operate, especially given that their market share continues to plummet by the month as they make their way to their new permanent residence in The Land of Reduced Expectations."

also from autoextremist:

"Chrysler. Will these guys ever repair their shattered relationship with their dealers? Not anytime soon, apparently. Group 1 Automotive, the nation's fourth-largest dealership group, is suing DaimlerChrysler and its finance companies, alleging discrimination against Group 1's Chrysler group and Mercedes-Benz dealerships, according to this week's Automotive News. The civil suit claims DaimlerChrysler used "unlawful coercion, retaliation, discrimination and bad-faith conduct" after Group 1 switched its $300 million floorplan loan from DaimlerChrysler Financial to JPMorgan."

...and...

"The "new" Chrysler. Rumors abound that the reemancipated Chrysler is planning to have a party at its headquarters in Auburn Hills on August 1st to celebrate its new-found independence. Let's see, they have exactly one vehicle that's actually selling on its own (the Jeep Wrangler 4-door), their other new products are either wildly inappropriate for the market or just flat-out mediocre, at best, and the cost of financing the purchase deal seems to be going up exponentially by the day for Cerberus. Just off the top of our heads, don't ya' think - just maybe - that a party isn't what this company needs at this juncture? Then again, with that roster of problems facing them maybe getting hammered would be a good first day for the new company."

Group 1 is who my Mom is a comptroller with.  They're big in Texas.  Guess I better give her a jingle.
