Wow, look at all the coils on that 66 Ferrari. :o
I'd like to hear that thing run, I bet it's got a sound like no other.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

in 1967 here in SF at the International car show (which I've never missed) they had the winning Daytona P-4 fresh from DAYTONA on display at knee height on a turntable,..   they hadn't washed it and it was still streaked with debris and oil... i bet i stood there for '90 minutes with a awstruck look on my face   :o...

Bluebeast

I went to Pebble Beach only because I live 2 miles away. This is also where, every year, they have the Russo-Steele auction which typically has a good number of muscle cars. They had a few Mopars this year as they do every year. It's always a great "car" weekend no matter what your favorite car is.

I think there was only one or two of these made, they were street legal and (hand) made to qualify them as production G.T.s...  :yesnod:
so they would qualify in a production catagory, where as earlier versions raced as Group 6/7 Prototypes depending on engine displacement.

I think it's funny how they had exposed rivets holding the body panels together, especially noticeable in that last pic. Maybe it was their version of airplane styling? We had wings & taillights that looked like jet engine exhaust & they had rivets? :icon_smile_big:

Jags were actually built as aircraft were, started with their Monocque Chassis designs for the D-type in the early late '50s & early '60s... the other big advantages were their superior disc brakes which allowed them to out corner and late brake especially   at the end of long straights like at Le mans where they out handled the Ferrari's, they also actually used   wind-tunnels another innovation like the discs brakes they shared with Mercedes, who incidentally and in addition used air brakes, a flap that raised up behind the driver... these cars were approaching 170 MPH at the end of the 50s. but the real advantages of the wind tunnel testing was the rear spoiler and front air dam which we know so well from the Charger Daytonas but didn't first come into use intill the '63 season when speeds began to inch toward 200 MPH.

I'm actually so old i remember my Uncle Smiley taking me to an auto race on an airport runway where i saw the D types and 300 SLRs and some early vettes and misc Italian sports racers going at it in southern Calif. went to Ray Crocks first Mc Donald's and got cheese burgers chocolate shakes and fries too. I was about five or six...

That's pretty neat, Strat. The experience obviuosly left quite an impression on a young mind. :drool5: :icon_smile_big:
Something like that is something most of the general population would never have had the chance to experience...in fact, that ranks right up there with actually having been able to watch winged cars running around the big oval tracks back in the day, maybe even cooler.

BTW, I didn't know the 300SL Mercedes cars had a dry sump oiling system. Practically a race car for the streets.  ;D
