Hey guys, I bought a used 05 Ram 1500 (yeah it's got a Hemi  :icon_smile_big:), and there are some scratches in the clear coat from all the mesquite around here.  The scratches are not so deep that you can feel them with your fingernail but I'm having a hell of a time getting them out, so what would you recommend that I use, if it matters the color is black.

Thank you,
Tony

Have you ever used a buffer before? If not you may have to rub them out by hand with a good compound.

I've just used and have one of those cheapo low RPM types from wal mart, I bought that scratch remover stuff but it doesn't seem to be up to the task.  Thanks for the reply.

Did you try the Megulars Clear Coat Scratch Remover?

AirborneSilva

No I didn't try that, didn't even see it.  I have two different types but can't really remember their brand names right now (getting old  :icon_smile_big:), I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere.  Thank you....

i would reccomend taking it to a body shop or a detail shop , black is tough to work with and can be made a real mess if you arent sure of what to do . there are special polishes just for black and steps and it will cost more than having it done.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Yeah I have thought about taking it to a detail shop to see if they can get them out, there are not too many and while it's not a new pickup it is new to me....  Thanks for the reply

If you get the Megulars , don't swirl it. Rub it straight with the body lines. Because of it being black.  And it does work very well. :2thumbs:

Thank you, I'll give it a shot (without the cheapo buffer of course), that is if I can find it  :yesnod:

If you try just compound & thats not enough then it's to deep, meaning you'll probably have to pull out some 1,500 or 2,000 grit wet sanding paper & lightly wet sand & rub. I say lightly because factory paint is very thin & very easy to sand/go through which you dont want to do. If wet sanding & rubbing not enough maybe a repaint only option.  :Twocents:  LEON

Thanks Leon, I'm assuming you are talking about a light rubbing compound.  The scratch remover (one of them I think was made by "New Finish" the other I can't remember who made it, mabey "Kit"), anyway they didn't quite do the job...
