Back in the late 1980s or very early 1990's, my dad's friend sold his 1969 Daytona and I was wondering if anybody had any info or pictures of this car. My dad could have bought this car for $1500 at the time, but didn't want it because he thought it was ugly. It's amazing how much has changed.

It was yellow with a black stripe and it had a 440 with a 4-speed. He sold it to a guy that lived in North Carolina I believe or somewhere in that area of the country. The car was bought from a family in southwest Oklahoma. Their last name was Upton.

Are you talking about my signature pic? If so, that is my 69 Charger.

Would be easier to track by a VIN or something like that, or a previous owners name. Kind of difficult to narrow the known Y2 Yellow 4 speed cars down. Not very man fitting those perameters, but still more than 1.

The first owner's last name was Upton. They had it from 1970 until about 1990 (give or take a few years). That's all the info I have. I know it's not much, but I thought it was worth a shot.

nascarxx will probably beat me to looking it up based on the name, but I'll try to make a note to do some looking in the papers tonight.

I really appreciate it.  :icon_smile_big:

I can try and find out where the car was bought if that will help.

Owners name state dealer it may have been from all helps to narrow it down .And its described as a Y2 yellow 4 speed.Got to look in my newsletters for it tonight

I did a quick search through what I have logged for all the OK shipped cars and nothing jumped out at me.  Dave might be able to find something in the WW newsletter articles, but the Club's old VIN lists don't have an exact match.  I did a search through my spreadsheet for Upton and came up blank also.

Here's what I found for the cars listed as shipped to Oklahoma:

390017  Y2 - but this is supposedly an auto car, listed owner was a Vernon S. from OKC, OK
409034  F8 4-speed
400590  F6 4-speed (owned by a DC.com member)
409032  R4 Auto (owned by a DC.com member)

405176  VIN logged, no color/transmission info
410764  VIN logged, no color/transmission info
409031  VIN logged, no color/transmission info
355119  Not recorded
355121  Not recorded

All but two of the above cars were shipped to OKC, with the exceptions going to Tulsa and Poteau, OK respectively.  It also could be that the car was originally shipped to a North Texas dealership and later traded/transferred.  Without having a VIN to go by, it'd be really hard to say for certain which car it was or where it's at now (it wouldn't be appropriate to post location details anyway).

I just found out that it was bought in either Coffeyville, Kansas or Fort Scott, Kansas.

I checked the cars listed as having been shipped to Kansas like I did the Oklahoma cars and found the following:

386560  Hemicar
412542  B5 auto
412547  R4 auto
390016  Y2 auto  - listed as shipped to Overland Park, KS which is near Kansas City.
356519  R4 4-speed (a DC.com member has the broadcast sheet for this car)
386561  V2 4-speed
409030  T5 auto

355120  Not recorded - by me anyway...

That's the best I can do to help out.

I was just going to try to do a search by name, and then one by Y2 cars that are 4 speeds. To see what I come up with.

How many Y2 4-speed cars were made?

69_500

Well with a quick glance through some papers I came up with 4 Y2 yellow 4 speed cars. Although one of  those is a Hemi car so that rules it out off the bat. Now I'll do a cross search of those VIN's with old owners lists and see if any of  those were possibly in the areas you spoke of.

bordin34

Is this one Y2 yellow? I forget which trans it had.

Paint job was done in 1972.    Larry, forget about sending that check.  Save your money and finish your own heap.   At least that guy got color sprayed on his car.

Not to mention a VIN starting with "XX".

Once again Larry, you make yourself out to be the true horses ass. You know nothing about that car, nor it's owner.  :rotz:

I believe that the Orange/Y2 Daytona pictured is a 4-speed car. the current owner bought it that way and appears to be a nice unrestored car that was just repainted to a past owners color preference.
