Teach me how to do a burnout

Even though I think spinning the tires on a hard turn or take off is a better display of power (and cooler in my book) I'd still like to know how to do those big stationary tire frier's. Do you have to have a power brake car?

supserdave

Bigger stall converter would make all the difference with your cam. Or change the cam for more bottom end.

Harlow

I'm going to be changing the cam. I can still spin the tires on take offs and stuff like that, but I'd like to know how to do those stationary burnouts.

JR

On cars with loose converters or strong engines, you simply put your left foot on the brake, and with your right foot ease the gas down just enough to get the tires to spin. DO NOT simply floor the gas, thats alot of unnecessary wear on the car, just give it enough gas to break them loose.

On some cars, you have to release your foot off the brake just slightly to free up the back wheels, and when they start to spin press the brake enough to stop the car.

That is the basics for an auto tranny. A manual tranny involves some heel and toe but it's pretty simple too.

BUT ABOVE ALL REMEMBER TO KEEP THAT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT ALL TIMES. IF YOU WANT TO BE STUPID YOU HAVE TO BE SMART ABOUT IT. Dont get distracted and let the car roll forward. Anything could happen. And if you hear any noises or people get close just take your foot off the gas.

With that said, the burnout was the first thing I learned how to do when I got out on my own. Oh the tires i've fried.... :icon_smile_big:

spinng tires on a hard turn , in my book means hitting something and doing damage .  ::) big stationary tire frier's = horse power and torque . rolling burn outs are the best . no power brakeing  :nono:

goto www.youtube.com and do a search on burnouts

here are a few i found you could spend days watching burnout vids on you tue  :icon_smile_big:

heh, I went so far as to buy an extra set of wheels for both of my "race" cars for that sole purpose... I pick up used tires from the local tire shops every once in a while since they have to pay to have them taken away... so if I can get a set that someone got rid of that still have some tread on them and still hold air (for a day) I use em :)

Not to mention those bald tires might spin easier.

A line lock to hold the front brakes on will make it a little easier too.  (not to mention a bit of water under the rear tires or some bleach  :D )

Here's me having fun with the spare wheels and tires. I didn't let it get into 3rd gear, but there they are running about 5000 RPM in 2nd, which means turning around 80mph for me.

terrible one

rav440,

Your car looks really familiar. Wasn't it on Ebay a while back?

HemiDave

Simply follow the rules.

THE RULES

Find an empty stretch of road.
Put the car in reverse and back up at about 20 mph.
Drop the car in 1st and NAIL IT.

You have now done a burnout. Please pick up all the pieces before you leave.

The Management.

With the car sitting still, and in neutral. Wind the engine to about 4,000 rpm's and slam it into gear. It will make a major burnout the first couple of times, by about the third time you'll need a tow truck.

It also helps (if you can) to get the ground nice and wet around the back wheels. That will help make them spin easier.

73ChargerSE

Bring your car over and I'll teach you  :D :D :D.  But really, I can show you how to.

Harlow

Alright Paul. Once I get the roof skin on...whats the update on the pistons?

Big Lebowski

Buy a 440 six-pack Charger like mine w/ a 2600 stall converter, tap the brakes and just give it about 3/4 throttle & it will cook the tires. Stationary or all the way down the street/strip :2thumbs:
"Let me explain something to you, um i am not Mr. Lebowski, you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the dude, so that's what you call me. That or his dudeness, or duder, or you know, el duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

LINE LOCK....  Only way to go. :yesnod:

Makes it so you don't mess up your brakes. :icon_smile_big:

I couldn't agree more.  I roll along about 10-15mph in 1st and nail it.  Usually boils 'em real good into second.  :D

even my modest 200rwhp will roast the one tire from a dead stop with brand new tires on a 92 degree day. :2thumbs:

If big burnouts are a sign of power and torque how come the little FWD sh*tboxes do some of the best burnouts?

Burnouts are dumb, they prove nothing.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
