What is the purpose of body plugs?

Part of the assembly process consisted of a lovely dip in a tank of corrosion resistant chemicals, the holes in the floor allowed these chemicals to drain from the unpainted bodies before heading to the paint booth.  Plugging these same holes after painting turned out to be an excellent way to keep road dust and yucky exhaust fumes out of the interior.
(and that answer is not the sarcastic little piece that it reads like)

So welding them shut wouldnt affect anything then?

Ghoste

Only to the value of the car if you were trying to sell it to a purist. (in other words, no)

terrible one

Wow, I never knew that. I always thought that they were for draining water out of the car if it got in there. Hey, they work well enough for that too! And for sweeping rust and dirt out of the car  :smilielol: Ask me how I know. . .

There is nothing pure about my car and it wont ever be for sale...   ;D

:RantExplode: IMO they caused nothing but rust issues especially in the lower rear quarter panels.how many cars wouldn't have rusted there if those holes weren't there,IMO not many  :Twocents:

was great if you could find a convertible stored outside that the owner had the vision to remove body plugs first, many a project convertible ruined from rust do to standing water in the car.
