Put a MSD-6AL in the Hemi car...WOW what a difference!

Took me 2 full nights to get it in but it was well worth the effort. IMMEDIATE throttle responce. It woke that stroker motor right up (as if it needed it)! I couldn't believe the difference. I found a great place to hide the unit...left side wheelwell mounted to the front side of the panel that connects the splashpan to the inner fender. Fit almost perfect! If anyone is considering MSD it's worth every cent.

No surprise.....been running them for years.  :icon_smile_big:

Doug, be careful working around the cap/wires while the engine is running....you haven't lived until you've been zapped by an MSD box

My dad had a MSD in his 71 Camaro that he owned like 5 years back....it was a bondo bucket but man that car was fast! Then he sold it to make a down payment on our old 02 Dakota.

Thanks Ron, I'll try to keep that in mind. What gap do you run on your plugs? I opened up the gap to a loose .045 and noticed an immediate difference. Do you think I need to go more?

Doug, .045-.050 is fine for "street" compression levels in the 9.5-10.5 ratio.  :yesnod:

As the compression ratio increases (race fuel) you need to tighten up the gap.  ;)

Maybe I'll give that a try to get my spinal cord acting right.  ;)

I've always had good luck with points but the reliability of instant starts and crispness off the line can't be beat.   Did you get the new black one with the Mopar insignia on it Doug?

Actually Ron dont know if you've been nailed by one but there is something that hurts WAY worse than a MSD box. An old "buzz box" off a model T. Holy lord I felt that one for a week.

MSD's are decent but i still like my stock ignition.

Charger1973

What all do you need to convert to the MSD ignition, just the box?  It eliminates the ballast resistor doesnt it?

Ghoste

Just to throw another good un in there, wait until you are rummaging around under the dash of a 1st gen and ground yourself to one of the white wires.  The el instrument panel doesn't come low powered.
