Question about Headliner Install in 70 Charger RT.....

I am installing the headliner in my 70 Charger RT and there are two small bows near the rear window (one for each C pillar) and the headliner that I have doesnt have the same loop for these two small bows to go though...is the headliner supposed to have loops for these or is mine defective and need to be sent back???

Also did you use the big cardboard triangles that fit against the C pillars behind the headliner???

YES, that headliner is supposed to have the channel for those small bows to slip thru. Where did you get that headliner from?

And, the cardboard backings go behind the headliner as well. They are just there for sound purposes more than anything else. The headliner does not get glued to them, they just slip in & get held in place with one push-in clip. There's a small hole in the roof for them. The panels also go behind that metal "L" bracket on the package tray.

Dangit!!! I knew something was wrong. I purchased the headliner from Hardens way back in 1999 and never ever opened it until now! I will check to see if they will exchange it for the correct one!

Someone else on this board made a post about their headliner not having the loops in it for the short bows, so I took mine out of the box to look, and mine has the loops in it. It is made by R.E.M., so if you need a headliner, ask your vendor who manufactures the ones they sell and make sure it's an R.E.M., or ask if they know for sure if it has the loops on it. I wish I could remember who I bought mine from, but I bought it from a seller on Ebay. I also bought the cardboard sail panel boards, but I don't know what they are for in a Charger. Some cars had the boards wrapped in headliner material and installed on the C-pillars, but not Chargers. If you didn't put them in, I don't think anybody would know.

Dennis,read Bills post above about the function of the sail panel cardboard. My 70 Roadrunner has the sail panel boards wrapped in material. I will inquire about the REM headliners when I order one again.

My headliner is made by REM also. I got mine from Dante's.

The headliner does NOT get glued or attached to those cardboard panels. The panels just clip into the roof & stay there. I guess it was just some sort of sound barrier. The headliner just goes on to cover them up.

Blakcharger, check Dante's for a headliner. I think it was $65 bucks or something.
Also, if you go back & check some of my replies to you on the back window clips, you can see how those cardboard panels are installed.

My headliner is a PUI, and the sails aren't even attached to the main headliner, kit comes with headliner for roof, then 2 sail panel pieces, no loops or anything on back. I was told you install the top part, then glue the 2 pieces to the cardbord triangles, then install it.  I asked about this topic... heck a year or so ago, and I got responses and pics from guys who installed the same kind of headliner I got.  But I know the one out of the car when I got it was all 1 piece with the short bows in sail area.

I took the old one and clean it up and reused it, perfect...
