69 daytona $145.000 seen @ Carlisle origins

I ran into a longtime known wingcarmember.Ernie P that weekend who also had a daytona at the show.And back in the late 70-80 had numerous wingcars at his house.And he was telling me a story about that badly wrecked F6 daytona he once owned.And hearing the story he had told me about that car coming from PA.Didnt match the going around flood story daytona.As he said that used to be his car .But the story was the the guy intentionally flipped the car over by veering off a telephone pole.Ernies car is club verified as XX29L9B381541 from July 79.And the car shows on the shipment list coming from a Hatfield PA dealer.And If I recall correctly the carlisle car shared the same vin.Ernie most likely sold this car to Dave Patik.As Dave had a handfull of rescued daytona and sold them offIts possible Dave Patik sold the car And it could have changed hands from time to time .Eventually ending up and becoming the known flood flipped over daytona .Tom the current daytona owner was curious to know any back history that could be traced on his car

I've never believed that that Daytona is conclusively the flood car.    All of a sudden that story has taken off. 

To me, it looks like it just hit a pole and went over.

Yep, that's the VIN of the Carlisle car...  The connection with Ernie would answer a lot of questions about that car, wouldn't it?

Is that an original paint car with alot of primer? 

The reason I ask:
1. the trunk striker isn't painted on the deck lip. It usually got painted with Creative repainted the modified deck lid and
2. the trunk hinges aren't painted all the way (at least it looks like they aren't)......

There has been a photo circulated of the complete car showing the nose damage in a salvage or tow lot.   Who has that photo?

OK tell me again, what is the connection between the above photo and what makes it the flood car? 

I realize there are some similarities, but you can't even tell the color of the flood car from the B & W photo.

I'm not sure that the F6 Carlisle/Englishtown car is the flood car either.  The wheels & tires appear to be different in the flood picture to the j/y picture.  I doubt that they would change those out from steelies to Magnum/Road Wheels on a car headed to the j/y.

Additionally, the driver's quarter and door area do not appear very damaged at all in the flood picture Daytona, whereas the older & newer pictures of the F6 car all show pretty significant damage to nearly every body panel.

Not sure what's up with the trunk striker, but you're right in that they usually did get painted or at least oversprayed at Creative.  My car has a few examples of things that were "normally" done but were not done on it, so I guess this is yet another inconsistency.  With both MaMopar & Creative Industries, that's not too surprising, is it?

The trunk hinges were often left half-painted like that.  Very common...  Also, the primer came in both grey (like that car) and black.  Mine were primed with black paint, but were painted (R4 red) a little farther up than this F6 car's hinges were.

One other thing...

I got to looking at the picture, and the rear axle of the flood car looks like an 8-3/4" (rounded) housing, whereas the F6 Carlisle car is a Dana 4.10 SuperPerformance (A32) car.

Doug,You got my vote on that one!! The radiator support and the insides of the front fenders tell  that the nose got squeezed together(like Hemi Tyme's picture) and forced downward.  With the roof over the drivers head pushed down, the scrub marks by the right side of the rear window and the right quarter pushed down it has all the signs  of a hard center hit and a moderate left side roll.  Al

Thats one part of the mystery solved on that F6 car .I also seen at carlisle a X9/ red stripe 440 daytona.402962..I have to look in my stuff .I believe that car used to be a A4 silver red interior car with column automatic.When I seen it back when in TX.It came to NJ by Paddy D then to George H of Waynesburg PA .Same guy that sold Billl S his white on red daytona.And if you seen the 426 orange daytona inside. totally auto restored .I had sent to me a copy of the original sales invoice and warranty book.To Dave F and John the current daytona owner.The owners name was Ed Ryan car sold in CA.Ed Ryan the original owner did some retro customizing back some time ago.I showed Dave from totally auto this ad I later found for it when it was for sale

Heres the reply I recieved on that car from Dave at PCG

  Car # 381541 was being driven in a rainstorm, when driver lost control.  Car went into ditch, and car landed on roof.  Car was wrecked, but is definitely fixable.  Roof was pushed in on front left.  Rear glass ok.  Frame rails seemed ok, but weren't measured.  Car had no evidence of ever being in a flood.  If you are looking at the well known picture of an upside down Daytona with other cars from a flood, that was in the midwest.  381541 came from Northeast.

Dave, you got me scrambling there for a second...  I have 402962 listed as the F6 green car from Europe that was listed for sale on Cars-On-Line a while back (the one that we thought was a scam auction for a while because they were using pics from John A.).  I was thinking that maybe it had sold, been shipped to the 'States and that I had missed it at Carlisle.

The X9/Red Stripe car at Carlisle is 409062 - same numbers just rearranged a bit.  I don't know how you and Danny can just rattle off VIN's like that.  I'm pretty much lost without my records which is yet another reason I'm always toting around a backpack at the big shows  --  there's always something I need to look up. 

That X9 car is an original V2 car, but I don't know whether or not its history goes through TX or whether it's been painted other colors.  I suppose if it's had one color change, it could have had others too

I had that green car in my records.It the sweden car.I remember it now.Got to organize my records409062 402962 trying to remember this stuff.Im still looking thru stuff for its vin and owners I recorded .Its very similar to the black red car seen at carlisle



I must have been thinking F6 all day looking up the history of the flood daytona.And that 402962 car F6 green .And never did hear if its still around.I have these piocrures owner sent me on the other computer.Ann put the daytona vins from shippment list on a spreadsheet and printable versions .To get better organized.And get away from business card written info on back.Or show programs scribblings.I did for years
