engine running weird at around 2000 rpms

Ok, I just finally got a chance to really notice that my engine when cruising at around 2000 rpms, the car kinda starts to buck.  If I floor it, the engine runs great or if it is at idle, it runs great also.  The only time it seems to hick up is when it is steady cruising at around the 2000 rpm range.  The engine is a 383 4 bbl bored 30 over with a mild MP purple stripe cam (I can get the specs if needed).  The distributor is the MP electronic ignition kit and I have the vaccum advance plugged on it.  Any ideas as to how I can smooth out the engine at these rpms?

I will be attending the Charger meet in Gettysburg so I can show some people there if I dont have the problem straightened out by then.

Thanks,

Brian

jetting maybe? what do the plugs look like? i have a 750 eddy on one of my smallblocks that would lean out in the mid range just off idle till the secondarys opened and it did the same thing till i finally got the right metering rods etc in it.

definitely sounds like a carb tuning issue, the cam isn't big enough to cause those problems. Although having too little timing in it down low can worsen the effect, it isn't the root cause.

Ok, who is a good person or company to get jetting from for a stock Carter AVS for my 69 Charger?  It seems like it should have more power than what it does.  Unless I pop the clutch, it really wont break the bias ply tires loose.  With 3.55 gears and a manual tranny, I think I should be able to floor it from a roll in first and still be able to break the tires loose no?

Depends on a couple of things, what carb is on it because it could be jets OR metering rods, also at that RPM thats right around where the mechanical advance starts to come in so it could also be the timing jumping around. Try driving it with the vaccum advance disconnected and plugged, good luck.

Vacuum advance is disconnected and plugged.  This is the condition I am getting now.

Ron,

I still have to get or borrow a digital timing light.  I know the initial or idle timing is just over what the timing tab marks are on the tab on the timing cover.
