My old man has a vintage Stella 12 string guitar he was wanting to find out what it might be worth, so I thought I would ask some of you guys and girls on here. My grand pappy and his brother went in together and bought it some time in the mid to late 30's. I cant seem to find a serial number in it or stamped on it any wheres. All of the hardware is original and it still has the label inside of it. Its a "jumbo" size if that matters. It needs a good cleaning, which I think hes gonna have done in the next few weeks. I cant seem to find any like this one :shruggy: Any ideas?

i ve seen a few STELLAS but never a 12 before... interesting guitar, two bolts there at the neck,.. a somewhat unusual shape, and being old i bet it has an interesting sound,..  :scratchchin: perhaps it maybe worth having it professionally set up,..  to increase it's value?.. i have no idea as to a dollor amount,.. but I sure would wanna play it if it was restrung..  :musik010:

Dad is taking it this week to get it cleaned and set up. He talked to is Mom earlier today and she told him that his Father(Jim) and Uncle(Clete) ordered the guitar from Hawaii in the late 20's or very early 30's. So it is older than we originally thought. She also told him that they were married in 1934 and Jim had had the guitar before they were married. Dad says the guitar has a beautiful sound, but Ive never heard it.

I'm no expert, but it looks to be.
I found this a few minutes ago while looking on the net.

I have owned hundreds of old guitars, mostly old Fenders. That whole deal became a drag a few years ago. Guitars have just gone nuts across the board. $1K doesn't get you much today. Plus I never had a guitar, even any of my old 50's Strats that were worth what they are getting now. Its just insanity.

Damn...I'd pay that much if it was LeadBelly's actual guitar.

  :notworthy: @ Leadbelly

Kurt Cobain bought that leadbelly guitar.  Don't know where it is now.  Courtney Love probably hocked it for cracik

then you know...you might want to withhold your non-expert analysis in the first place.

that is cool. at the Barrett auctions , i noticed that some cars had matching guitars . so i bought a couple of bass necks and bodies . I'm building matching guitars  for my 39 coupe and my 68 charger r/t . i have left over paint from both . i just got to figure out what graphics to create to match the cars . .Rene
