What carb for a stock 71 440

AS some of you may have read elsewhere, I recently acquired a '71 GTX. Car is pretty much a show poodle at this point.

Engine is a stock 440, with the exception of the carb and intake. Intake looks like an old Edelbrock CH4B. The numbers are ground off, so I can't be sure. It has coil mounting bosses positioned for a Hollley dual feed carb and the Edelbrock CH4B is the only dual plane with this feature.

Here's the problem. On top of the intake is a POS Edelbrock Performer carburetor, model number 1406. That makes it a 600 cfm paperweight.

I'm not a big fan of the Performer series carb, and this one is undersized to boot. It has to go.

So now I'm looking at my options.

1.) The previous owner is supposedly shipping me the original Carter AVS and intake. I'm half tempted to try and make this work, but I have not idea what condition it will be in.

2.) Next option would be a Holley of some sort. I'm thinking 750 cfm vacuum secondary, w/ eletric choke (either a good old 3310, or an Avenger 770). I've got a lot of experience with Holley's, and it will bolt on to the current intake with minimal fuss.

3.) Final option would be a Edlebrock Thunder Series AVS. It would stick to the stock theme, but these suckers are pricey.

I'm definitely leaning towards option 2 at this point as I stare at all the Holley tuning parts I have on the workbench.

Suggestions please.

I went with the Thunder series you mentioned.  This is the one I just bought, the seller has more at the same price if you look at his other auctions.

Proform 750 vacuum secondary. Ask Chris (just 69 charger) how much better his car runs with one of these.  ;)

$440 price tag is a bit more than I want to spend. That's $100 more than a Street Avenger.

You could get a 3310 then buy a proform main body ($100.00) but you wouldn't be getting the billet base plate and metering blocks....if that matters at all to you.  ;)

There's a company that sells nice stock looking fuel lines for dual feed Holley carbs....a thread about it on here in the last month or so.

This carburetor issue really pisses me off the more I think about it. There is no good explaination for bolting one of those dinky-ass AFB knock-offs to a 440. Whoever did it was just plain cheap.

To rub salt in the wound, I had a 770 Avenger sitting on a shelf in my garage for a long time, but I sold it... cheap.

Now I'm faced with spending $300-$400 to replace it. There goes all my Mopar Nationals play money.

If I just buy a 3310, even after a Proform upgrade I'll be lacking electric choke and a secondary metering block. I'm more inclined to run a 770 Avenger for those reasons. Local speed shop has one in stock for $365.

As far as the fuel line goes, I have the tools and the talent to bend my own. That isn't a concern. While I'm at it, I'll upgrade the pump to carb line from 5/16" to 3/8".

Buy the Avenger, get it tuned and ready and don't worry about Ohio.  I'm sure your friends will look after some expenses to ensure you have some fun money.
