I have a 69 bee with a rebuilt 383 and hate the cam that's in there.  Im wondering what people are running in there 383 on the street.   Mine has 10.5 compression, port and pocket work on a pair of 906 heads, Eddy RPM intake with 750 carb.  It's a automatic with 3.54 gear's.   What would you run????????? :shruggy:

Boy,  dont everyone respond at once now- :-\

Engle k56 or Crower hdp271....both would be fine with mild gears and stock converter.

Mine is a HUGHES cam #HE2330BL.( from the mopar engine builder,if you aren't familiar with the name). Its a .504/.515 lift with 272/276 duration.  My engine buildup is similar to yours but with an eddy Torker intake, but I have 3.91 rear and a 10" converter. As far as streetable, well, around town it's a blast. It will plant you in the seat. But it gets very tiresome on the freeway.
Firefighter's suggestion might be better suited to your 3.54 rear. The 3.91s are what was recommended for the cam I used.

Whats in there now is a MP 284/484 but the OLD version from the early 90's.   It sounds really radical and basically sucks to driver around town.  I've got 3000 PTC converter and the 3.54 gears WHICH I think is part of my problem.........I need more gear!   It screems if your foot is buried in it.......but would like something with more vacumn for my power brakes.

Both of the cams i listed above would be a huge improvement over the old 284 purple shaft. Idle vacuum would increase and the power band would be widened into a more usable range for your combo. You would see a big increase in low end power and no drop off on the top. No need to swap out your 3.54's either....i would keep them, especially if you plan to drive on the highway a lot. Do the cam swap first then decide if you need (or want) more gear  ;)

What are your thoughts of the K58H from Engle?   Would that be too big? :scratchchin:

The k58 is a little on the big side for a street driven 383 with your stall and gearing, inmo. It is however 10* smaller (At .050 valve lift duration) than the 284 purple that's in there now....which is way too much, as you've discovered. The more duration you add the higher the powerband moves up....there are no free lunches so to speak.  :P

The biggest mistake most people make when choosing a grind is over camming.  :yesnod: It's important to consider all aspects of the car, motor & transmisssion as well as gearing when selecting the "right" bumpstick for your ride. Manifold vacuum for power brakes and headers vs. manifolds also plays a role....specificly in the lobe seperation angle and the resulting overlap in degrees of duration. Restrictive manifold exhaust systems are sensitive to tight lobed camshaft profiles.  ;)

I've got 1-7/8 Hooker coated headers on it now and a PTC 3000 Converter in it.  What converter would work with the K56 Cam.  Thanks! :popcrn:

Your converter and gears are fine for the K56....that's why i recommended it for your combo.  ;)

If you had a 3500 stall and 4.10 gears the k58 would be a better choice but it would make less manifold vacuum for your power brake booster. It's all about balance and picking the best parts to work within the limitations of the overall package.  :yesnod:
