Classic/Muscle Car Prices in Canada Murder?

I've just watched two car sales personally that have just amazed me. First off, looking for decent classic/muscle car prices in Canada seems to be going to hell. The prices for anything that runs seems to make it automatically over $1000, add MOSTLY rust free, add another $1000, etc. I mean hell, in BC I haven't even seen a 4 door valiant for under $1500 now  ::)

So now fast forward to a friend who went down to Seattle. He picked up two Dodge Darts both running and drivable, one a 6cyl and the other a 318 for less than $1200 Canadian for the two. Not sure what it cost him to bring them across the border but it can't be that much. Anyways the moment he gets them back into Canada he lists them both for sale together and gets $6000 CDN!

Why are the prices of these cars so expensive here in BC? I mean with the Canadian dollar being the highest it's been in a long while, as close to par as it almost can be.... :brickwall:

not sure but it is high as well here in Texas and the southern US. any 70 E-body is minimum $20k for a rust bucket.

supply and demand. supply ended long ago in northern states and canada. then every one looked south for cars, and out west(ariz, NM and cali). now there isn't much place left that these cars are hiding. but there is still TONS of demand. and with e bodies and B bodies pretty much past most normal people's budget for a project, A bodies were next in line. and they is why they are crepping up year after year recently. just from what i've noticed anyway..

For a classic car there is no duty. You'll have to pay GST at the border on the Canadian equal (don't try to BS them....they know) and then PST when you register the car. Here in Ontario that means you first have to get the car appraised and you pay PST on whatever is greater, the actual purchase amount or the appraised value.

Well that pretty much means the now is the time to buy south and bring it up north with the Canadian dollar equal to .95 U.S.

and I don't mean to resell either but something new to work on!

Perhaps. But resto parts from the US will drain more $$ than you can imagine. The shipping duty alone is brutal. Let alone the cost, the FX, the shipping, the taxes etc.

Defintely easier restoring a Mopar if you live in the USA.

Ive done it already with a '53 GMC Pickup and it wasn't that expensive. Parts in Canada are easy enough to find and about the same as in the states for prices, it's getting the car itself which is twice as much!  :brickwall:

Restoring anything GM is different. Everything Mopar comes from out of country. I'm talking about a real resto....not some "freshen up"

Yes but like I said, I can buy even MOPAR parts here in Canada for even decent prices, it is just the cars that are murder on the pocket book.
