Good price for a Charger Bulge Hood with inserts?

This is the verdict,
I was at a local car cruise and a old timer says he has a Rare Charger Bulge Hood that will fit my 73' Charger Rally.
So I go to check the hood out the other night and it is one of those Bulge Hoods with the inserts in the middle, like on the Super Bee's, I believe that it is a 71' or 72' hood. It is like a air grabber but does not open, it has those inserts.
The hood likes really nice, looks to be original paint, black. So it would not look too bad on my white Charger.
The thing is, hold onto your seats, he wants $1,200 for this hood. I wanted to sat that it was way over priced but I did not want to insult him.
The old baddger said it is not advertised and if I want it I know where it is. Does that sound right, $1,200. :shruggy:
I know standard bulge hoods are fetching a good $. This is a rare hood that is super clean. What do yall' think?  :scratchchin:

That seems about right. Is it the louvered one?

If the hood has one big fiberglass plate with the call out emblems on each side (of the insert not the hood) then its a 71 Super Bee hood. If the insert is ribbed or looks like fins then its a 71 R/T hood. Regardless of which, its worth the money (in my opinion). Both hoods are from low production 1 year only cars.

If you need pictures of the 2 hoods let us know!

The old baddger says that he just noticed my Charger & thought I may want it. I should try to give him a deposit to see if he will hold it for a little while. :scratchchin:
That would look bad ass on a 73 Rally. :yesnod:
I just can't believe that $1,200 is a good price.  :scratchchin:

Bulge hoods arent cheap.  RT/Superbee hoods are even more expensive and air grabber hoods are out of sight.  That hood can have the insert switched to the louvered insert if you prefer, because the insert is the only difference between the RT and Superbee hoods.  The actual hood is the same. That is a good deal if you ask me, I just dont care for that hood.  I prefer the smooth bulge hood or air grabber myself.  The only time I would want an RT or Superbee hood is on the car it actually goes too.  Still, I think its worth picking up for the price.

man, its sad, i remember just 5 years ago those damn hoods could be bought for 400-500 dollars...  I think I would rather buy a fiberglass one then spend that kind of money on a steel one.  but, that is just me.

I agree and feel the same as you Jamey. I most likely am going the fiberglass route now.

Yeah but 5 years ago we were bitching that they were too expensive too... personally, I dont really see the price going down.  The hood is what makes these cars look good, so I didnt have any problem with paying the price.  If you think about it, even if they are reproduced the new hoods would cost just as much.

hemihead

I'm going Fiberglass. I don't need one at the prices the collectors want.Doesn't make the car go faster with a steel Bulged hood.

Maybe this pic will help...  of course you will need to make the cutouts, but the locations are there they just werent cut after 71 since the spoiler wasnt an option anymore.
