Went and saw it last night and guys I have to say...Save your money. It was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
It really sucked. I can usually tolerate a movie for the entire time. even if it's not that great but to be honest I almost got up and walked out and asked for my money back. It really sucked!  :rotz:

Thanks to George Lucas for ruining another great series.

I liked the movie but if you go in expecting it to surpass the originals you will be disappointed.  Basically just expect a good action/adventure film with some throwbacks to the old movies and you will enjoy it.

Yeah you can tell George Lucas had his hand in it with the unnecessary CGI crap, but overall it was good.  They kind of played up the hat but forgot to use the whip or theme song much.  I thought that was strange.  The ending was a little "out there" too, but if you look back at the other movies, I guess it could fit...

I saw it and it is what it is. If you were there when the movies were first released, it's nice nostalgia and a way to end the series but don't expect too much. Now is the time to end the series.

I haven't seen the new Indy yet but I know from previous experience (Star Wars) that Lucas is pretty good when it comes to conseptual thinking but when it comes to the execution of those concepts the story-telling really falls flat. It's too bad he can't just focus on what he's good at and leave the rest to the experts.

What a piece of crap that movie was. I FINALLY convinced my wife that it was gonna be a good movie...I mean, c'mon, it's George Lucas and Indiana Freakin' Jones....what a waste of an afternoon. $21.00 for 2 tickets, 6-something for popcorn that was stale (much like the movie), and 2 flat-ass sodas for 9 bucks. Well, there's roughly 40 bucks and two hours I'll never get back...as Alfred E. Newman would say, "Blecccchhh!!!"  :eek2:

P.S. Wife...RIGHT again...when will I learn?!??  :brickwall:

Man, are you guys sure you've actually seen the old Indy movies?

I loved this new Indy flick.  Honestly it was better than I ever expected it to be.  I don't see anything so bad about this 4th movie, that WASN'T just a built-in weak point of the whole Indiana Jones series from 1981.

Cheesy supernatural objects?
Hopelessly unsurvivable action?
Huge elaborate special-effects?
Complex booby-traps from 2000 years ago that still work?
Collapsing primitive temples?
Sidekicks that seem out of place?
Physical comedy & gags?

Face it, that pretty much sums up all the 1980s Indy movies to a tee.

I have to say the new Indy movie fits in well right along side "temple" and "crusade". I think it was a great movie and was better the second time I saw it. The beginning of the movie was fantastic. Glad to see Karen Allen back to finally answer some questions. Overall in my opinion it was just as good as Crusade and Temple.

I will see it 4 times, it was so awesome.  :D

I preferred it over all but the original movie. These shows have always been unbelievable and unrealistic and this is no different. I didn't expect or want to watch a real life archeologist documentary.

saw it yesterday, and I did like a lot... just didn't like the aliens fact, and the starship launching part... too much fantasy about that, but did enjoy a lot, the tipical humor on hard situations

I liked it alot. The story line really isn't that whacky. The alien stuff requires the same stretch of the imagination as the dogmatic stuff in the previous movies.

I agree, there is way too much rose-colored glasses about the original Indy movies.

--  The "perfect" original 1981 movie was all about a group of Nazis fighting for a 2000-year-old Jewish relic.  (Stop and think about that for a second.)  The Nazis finally open it up and a bunch of ghosts start melting everyone's faces off.  Indy & Marion are spared for some reason because they closed their eyes.

--  "Temple of Doom" starts with Indy (and the girl & 10yo sidekick) falling out of a flying plane and surviving without a scratch by sitting in an inflated rubber raft.  Indy gets controlled by a Voodoo doll & some wacko hypnosis.  The bad guy casually scoops the beating heart out of a guy (with his bare hands) and the victim is still alive afterwards.

--  "Last Crusade" involved Indy getting Adolf Hitler's autograph.  His dad get shot, so Indy gets the Holy Grail from a Knight in a secret temple (who had been patiently waiting in that little room since 1100 A.D. for Indy to show up.)  Getting there involved Indy not seeing a stone bridge 6 inches in front of his feet in broad daylight because it was painted black.

Drache

I saw it last night and I enjoyed it, until the flying saucer came out of the ground. At that point everyone in the theatre groaned. Personally I think they should have picked a better theme for him. At least the Ark of the Covenant (which makes a cameo) and the Holy Grail were neater topics.

The three earlier Indy movies centered around three major world religions.  (Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity)

You could make an argument that the Roswell/UFO/Aliens thing is a new major world "religion" to emerge in recent times.

Charger1973

Aliens are just as believable as the other stuff as Mike DC pointed out... I agree it seems weird but I would be tempted to believe Aliens crashed in Roswell before I would some of those other things they had in the first movies.

Whoa. We get warnings now for dredging up old threads. :nana:

Anyhoo, After all the bad reviews here I skipped seeing the new Indy movie in theaters but now I sort of wish I would have gone. I rented it last weekend and didn't think it was so bad. The alien business didn't bother me half as much as the amphibious car going off a cliff, landing safely in the top of a tree and being gently lowered into the water. And of course that was followed by the occupants surviving a fall down three huge waterfalls right after that. :o :rotz:
