This should probably be in the E-bay section but I couldn't resist...Where in this ad does it say it's not an R/T & it's a 383  Charger?

I sent him a friendly note about the vin # situation, since the buyer could scream fraud. :RantExplode:

I'm 100% sure that Chrysler didn't build any 1970 440 4-speed Air conditioned Chargers, no Dana either. Bogus, bogus, bogus.

i like the custom brake lines on the 8 3/4 :D snicker snicker... but hey, its a good looking car nonetheless.  and those rocker panels are major eyesores... i just could not stop looking at them... they totally break up the already clean lines of a great car... why?  :shruggy:

Personally I really like that car and would buy it if I thought I could afford what it is gonna sell for and damn sure would drop the cash at the current price.

Dodge did some oddball stuff too when it came to options.  At a TDC meet here years ago I talked to the original owner of a 70 383 4spd car.  In the course of our conversation he mentioned that when he was optioning the car out he wanted the 4spd and AC.  He said that you couldn't have both so he chose fun over comfort.  Now about a year later I talked to another original owner of a 70 383 4spd car.  His has AC and he said he ordered it that way.  So who's right?  Sh^% if I know but I see weird things in the option packages.   :shruggy:
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

I called him (phone number listed in the auction) and talked to him about the car.  The first thing I asked him was "Is the VIN number listed up on the auction match the number that is on the dash?" and he said yes.  I then explained, going by the VIN, that it can not be an RT/SE or even an RT since the second letter is not an S, but a P which would put it as a Charger 500 at best (and no 1970 Charger 500s came factory with a 440, one did with a hemi but that is a special case).   He responded that he thinks that it probably is a clone.  Hopefully he will correct his auction to reflect this bit of information.......

Could have been that particular car came through without A/C and the dealer added it when the car showed up.

You could not get AC with a 70 Charger 383 2bbl 4 speed combination.

It looks like a nice driver, but restored? I don't think so. There are so many incorrect things I lost count. 69 R/T stripe etc. etc etc

Just a question to the guys with all the factory info......Why was it that you could not get a 4 speed car w/air from the factory? Or a HEMI Car w/ a/c? What was their reasoning? Because today, just about every performance car comes w/all the options, including a/c.  :shruggy:

I thought you could get AC in anything except Hemi cars, 440-6 cars, & 440 4-speed cars. But 383 4-speed cars & 440 automatic R/T's came with AC, but not 440 4-speed Chargers. And 99% of those had Dana's.
And um, the rear brake lines on the 8 3/4 scare me and I'm fearless.

The only time you could not get A/C is with the Hemi or 440-6pk motors. You can get A/C with a 4-speed. This must be a clone car because the vin. should say XS. Also in my opinion, I like the rocker panels. It breaks up the color alittle plus it is a rare option. For some reason, the rocker panels on this car looks short. The rocker panels should be closer to the rear wheel lip moldings in my opinion.

I believe that the only Charger model with a four speed and a/c was if it had a 383.  The issue was compressor warranty if you missed a shift and screamed the engine.  For the same reason, I don't think you get a/c with any four speed engines in a Road Runner or Super Bee.

This is true. You could get a 383 4spd w/air. Also, the car up for sale is a 383 2bbl. All 383 2bbl's came with autos in 1970, so at some point this car was changed to a 4spd from an auto.

I don't think anybody can say for sure that a car could not come a certain way from the factory. We have all seen things on Mopars that were not supposed to be there. Obviously this is not an original car and is not a correct restoration, but it is a nice looking car. I am sure that the winning bidder will be fully aware of what he is buying. If not, then it is his own fault for not knowing what he is looking at. :Twocents:

I think one reason 6 pack cars did not get a/c was the sheer size of the air cleaner, I have seen cars where it was added and they had to cut the stock air cleaner.

dunno on earliers but pretty sure is the same: on 3rd gens the rocker moldings  arrives up to body line around wheel opening. That is around an inch or inch and a half before the wheel opening.

True, but until I see a broadcast sheet proving it exists we can only go by the official Chrysler material and the 70 Registry database which supports Chryslers position on this issue.

My parts car had a/c originally too. It started life as a 383 4-barrel, 4-speed car (XP29N0G).

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Wow, this guy still has not revised the ad to show it's not a real R/T, even after getting friendly phone calls & e-mails about it. He needs to change it to avoid his impending fraud Charges, when the new owner finds out it's not an R/T 440 4-speed car as advertised. :popcrn:
