Took Pics of My Charger Finally

I still haven't done much except gather parts for it, but since it was basically uncovered this past weekend I took some pics. What better place to post Charger pics than a Charger site?  

It's a '68 that's originally a 383-2V, auto on the floor & A/C. I don't have a build sheet, but there is a VIN on the dash & a fendertag kicking around somewhere with the title. The car was repaired extensively by a couple of previous owners who gave up on it for various reasons. The guy I got it from in Corydan Indiana several years ago, bought it for "ALL" the parts to use on his '68 Hemi Charger project. The guy he got it from out of the Chicago area, had done the body work & had all the trim, chrome, mechanicals, & other parts redone. He was supposedly restoring it, but had a kid & needed money.

It was just a rust free shell when I bought it & dragged it home. He gave me a few parts like the hood, doors, K-frame & the dome light wire. (That was the only thing that was never removed.) There was rear, passenger side, frame rail straightening done at one time, so it must have been hit. New quarters, wheel houses, trunk floor & extensions, L&R passenger compartment floors, rear valance & corners, maybe the whole tail panel, work done at the rear window, & possibly the front too. Everything lines up nicely, so it was repaired nicely. Before I ever start the reassembly, I'll put a rear in as well as the font K-frame & take it to chassis shop to have the frame double checked.

I have a '73 440 & a 727 waiting to find a home, & may also put the Dana 60 in too. It's also looking more like it will be a Daytona to me.

As a Daytona, I'd like to do it in black with a tan leather interior, or Burnt Orange with a black interior. If I keep it as a stock bodied '68, I'd like to put the vinyl top back on & go red with a black roof & put the A/C back in. (That was the color of the '69 SE I had 25 years ago.) I have the 440, 727, Dana 60, & an aluminum, dual quad, Offenhauser intake. I'll also add some nice, modern, upgrades for the brakes & suspension, & discs will be mandatory.

Could be more clones, but I've always wanted a wing car & they've always been just out of reach for various reasons. I was looking for a '69 Charger initially & not a '68 to do the ragtop conversion with my Coronet. After researching & comparing, I changed my mind & decided on a wing car. (That's why the Coronet ragtop is for sale.) I have a NOS tail panel, the tail lights & the mounting extensions, but I may not. If I don't, I'll have the rare '68 plugless window version.    

It won't ruin anything, it's just bolt on except for a few holes to mount the wing. With all the work that had been done to it already, it's not like I'm cutting up a survivor or something rare to do it. If I do the tail panel swap, I may as well do the window plug with it. (But that's a lot of work & I'm lazy.) I'm getting there with all the parts, I have the converted '70 fenders, a hood & will only need the nose cone which I'm ordering soon. Almost went to Florida on vacation to get it, but that's when "Katrina" hit so I changed my mind.

I bet a blown 440 would look cool sticking through the hood.

Your 68 looks great.
I think that with the 68's getting harder to find, it might not be a bad idea just doing the wing thing with the stock back glass. That way you could convert back with a minimal amount of work.
Who knows, we might get tired of the wing thing some day. Probably not, but at least you would feel better knowing that you could convert back easily.
I keep going back and forth on my clone as far as the back glass goes and my wife definitely doesn't want the back glass changed on her superbird clone. She really just wants the wing and fender scoops but I've talked her into doing the nose. To make our cars more similar, I may just leave my back glass alone...for now.
After all, we're not trying to fool anyone, we all just want a wing car...right?

Ever thought of using the new go mango color on the new ram daytonas. My wife had to have that truck, just because of the color and the wing.

That's a nice 68 you have there Bob. The body looks in great shape. Are you currently working on it or are you saving up for the conversion to a Daytona?

Aside from not wanting to tackle all the conversion work for the window plug, trunk lid, hinges & even the tail panel, I never really liked the flush window on the Daytona & the 500. If it was there already, I'd be okay with it, but it's a big expense & will take a lot of time to do, even if I paid a shop to do it. I can't justify the time & money to do something I can live without. It's just like when tripe is on sale, I'm not buying. The Superbird is a little more subtle & not bad looking, but I wouldn't bother with that conversion either. I also know I'm never going to see 200 MPH & don't think I'll make use of the aerodynamic advantages.

Yes, I love the new Go Mango color. It seems almost the same as Burnt Orange, but I think they'd have to be side by side to see. In all honesty, I'd be content with a primered wing car that can smoke the tires & push you into the seat.

I've been working on it alright, I've been working on pushing it from one side of the garage to the other.     So far, I've only been able to dismantle a parts car & scrounge swap meets, web sites & ebay for all the parts I need. It was literally missing so much that there wasn't anything to do on it. The other reason I haven't started, is that I had changed my plans. It was going to be just a donor shell for a Charger ragtop, but not after I decided it was beyond my capabilities. All that & a 6 year old daughter will hold you up.

A 1971 Barracuda, was a 318, now has a 400-4V & a 727.

Hey, I see a driver's side door jamb switch too...or did you do that?

I had forgotten that shell is that clean! At least there's one car you don't have any rust issues to deal with...well, that & the new toy.

Good eye, but I can't take any credit for that part of the restoration. Now I'll have to look at the other door jamb.
