The one and only slant 6 RT??

70 Charger RT

Here's the scoop.  My other post at  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,21486.0/all.html talks about the RT I just acquired from Manitoba.  My brother bought the car new so I know it's a real RT as it had the door scoops, 440 motor, etc...   The dash VIN is as follows (fender tag is missing) "XS29C0G233875".  The last 6 digits matches the rad cradle and the rear trunk lip.  I also have the original bill of sale which has XS29U0G233875 on it.  I suspect that when the dealer wrote up the bill of sale, they took the VIN off of the fender tag (missing) which I assume has the U in the VIN number.  As you all know, the C indicated slant 6 (I think).  Now HOW would a C end up in a VIN plate with an XS (Charger RT)?  The only conclusion I can come up with is that it's a factory mistake.  The dash plate looks original and it doesn't appear like anyone switched it.  That being said, why would anyone forge a VIN plate with a slant 6 code?  I can see someone forging a 426 hemi or a 6 pack, but certainly not a slant 6 (not that I have anything against a /6).  Do YOU have any explanation?

Your reasoning seems pretty logical to me.  I would guess that it's a factory misprint as well.  :shruggy:

I would say that it is a factory mistake as no /6s were offered in an RT package as the only C code that you have is the VIN tag, plus the bill of sale backups the 440.  Now if you had the body numbers, orginal title, fender tag and broadcast sheet all showing this, I would then say it could have been a /6 car.  I only wish that they had made a /6 RT in 1970 so that I could have another /6 Charger to search for my collection.  VIN typos do happen, but are fairly rare.  I have never seen a 440 coded as a /6 though......

:iagree:

That makes the most sense, and VIN mistakes have happened before although they are quite rare.  Not knowing anything else about the situation, my guess would have been that the car was a "V" code (6pack) rather than a "U" code (4bbl) because C and V are next to one another on the keyboard.  The dealer invoice is probably right though.

A novelty, for sure.  Wish the fender tag were still around.  Is the broadcast sheet still around?

I don't think the broadcast sheet is around.  I haven't looked for it yet but I know the car was up to it's roof in water in about 1973 so any paper (even behind the back seat) probably wouldn't survive.

Factory let that one slip by IMO.  Board member almerkel has a 4 gear '69 R/T that has a mistyped VIN as well.  Galen seen the car years ago up in Seattle and said it was legit.  Not that it matters.

Do the numbers on the block match the rest of the VIN?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Charger_Fan.  I never received a drivetrain with the car other than the rear diff.  You can see pix of the car at  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,21486.0/all.html  It's pretty rough but is salvagable.

Ma was by no means perfect or even close. There are lots of documented errors that they made. Add one more to the list. ;D
