Torque converter?

Did the 318 to 360 swap with the deathtrap (that's what my daughter calls the '70 Charger) and drove the car a number of times and all appeared to good. Driving to a service appointment, the car appeared to drag then lost all power to the wheels under moderate acceleration (all in 15 seconds). Tranny was recently rebuilt with maybe 500 miles on it. Linkage is all connected and working. Tranny fluid fine. I suspect the torque convertor as I doubled the HP but I thought they failed over time. Am I on the right track? Valve body?

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

No forward gears, no reverse. Nada...

It's possible you damaged the ears on the front pump of the trans while mating the engine to the trans. I say that because that happened to me once. If the torque converter slides out of the trans more than a fraction of an inch, it can rotate out of the ears of the pump, then when you go to bolt the engine to the trans it can fracture them.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.
