What engine parts would you guys recommend be chromed, besides the alternator housing?

Chargen69

I chromed out a engine a few years ago on a daily driver.  I'll never do that again, let's just say chrome doesnt like to be heated up everyday for 5 years.

If I had a car that I didnt drive everyday and it didnt have to be orginal, I'd chrome everything I could. I really liked how it looked when I first did it.

I agree thats a lot of polishing, sure looks good shinning but doesnt take much neglect to look like shit.

I would take one back to the 60's and buy some cheap land and put huge steel buildings on it.  then I would buy a bunch of junk cars/parts and keep them inside.  then the grand opening in the year 2000 and sit back and retire selling all of the "junk" cars that were retired because they needed trannys or rings.

You don't even know how many times i thought that. It was even a plan back in the late 70's....but you know how it is ....shit just don't happen like you want it to  :'( And for chroming a bunch of parts :-\

Have you tried to keep clean a vintage bike like a harley with lot of chrome ?... I just vote I wouldn't do it. Beside the fact sooner or later will come off.

The thing to remember when getting engine bay stuff chromed is to keep it balanced. Don't have one side too stacked with chrome and not the other.

I think with 8's the way to go is the valve covers, chrome air cleaner but with a decal to break it up a little. The thing I found (years ago) was that braided hoses are definitely worth the effort. The difference between a vehicle with rubber hoses and one with braided is huge. The only engine I really went to town on with chrome was a slant six, but I remember one year all I did was add braided hoses and took out the trophy for bets Slant 6.

Otherwise,  I have a bunch of stuff from Weldtech - polished stainless.   Alt / PS brackets,  T-stat housing,  dizzy clamp,  pan rails.

What can I say?  :shruggy:  I'm just not into that look.  I don't mind a few pieces, hell I have a chrome air clenaer on my own car but when it gets into doing everything underhood, I just lose interest, that's all.
With the exception of the previous tacky comment though, you won't hear me running down anybody else for doing it .  ;)

I guess I should have clarified a little.  I didn't mean chrome anything in sight kinda like Paul Wall's grills, rather moderate well placed and practical chromed parts, but all I could think of were the valve covers, air cleaner and alternator, but I guess thats about it without it looking tacky.

i have asked this before and no one had any further info on the mopar "engine dress up kit" i bought my 440 six-pack short block with the original chromed valve covers and i added a chromed dipstick from Year one,.. and a K&N air cleaner,.. too bad the rest of my engine bay looks like such crap...  :eek2: I've thought of adding the braided hoses but it ain't got around to it yet..
but now i got eight extra hours a day...   :D

Khyron

I went with a small touch of chrome but did a lot of flat black  :icon_smile_big:
