Finally I have a good carb

After hundred of tries I think I got THE BEST TQ that is posible to make down here, beside to buy a NOS one that I know is available but is for international truck 9000 series ( and a NOS one 6140 to Charger 340 auto 72 still for sale if you want it ;) )

Recently I got a rebuilt TQ 6139 carb ( right one up there to 72 400 engines and apparently original one from factory on mine here since we don't have emission controls devices )  what was in bad shape on plastic bowl. I returned it and didn't found the same, but got a 6322 what is specified to 73 440 dodges and plymouths cars as seller catalog stated ( without specify exactly models ). I asked ot demonsizzler about this carb and told me that is his favourite OEM 850 stock carb of all because the metering rods and jets. So with that reference of course I liked and decided to keep that carb.

BUT once again I got problems with plastic bowl. misteriouslly was broken on same place that the one I got earlier but not that bad, since at least I could drive with it.

I went to carb shop again and since I want stuck with TQ carbs and he didn't have another "rebuilt" one similar to this ones ( 850 cfms 6000 series ). They checked the ignition timing and told me was very delayed so gave it some advance to save one of the fails ( backfiring ). I wasn't really convinced about that becasue I have a mark on block with the right dist position and was very advanced with the mark. Anyway that wasn't the only fail... on cold the engine started and died suddenly.... tipical emptied bowl fail ( or not completely full ). One of the mornings I gave it full throtle about 3 times and the 4th time was getting air on injectors. So sure bowl wasn't really full. Sure floaters was also ouyt of adjustment but that wasn't all.

I asked if I could check for the ones they had used and storaged for years. They told me YES so I began the search to find a donor Plastic bowl.

I search between around 40 TQs mostly 800 cfms and 9000 series, several noticeable damaged, but FINALLY I found 4 ones with specs I was searching:

-6000 series.
-850 cfms ( bigger front opening throtles than the rest )
-no emission controls or any weird device  beside the canister and venturi tees, easy to tune and seal.

This one was the same 6322 I had got, but was incomplete ( missed mixture screws, and some links ). I decided to parted out and use the bowl. Installed on the one I had got and VROOOOM... practically perfect iddle at first time.

I decide keep it and checked at home patiently and comfortably. I get joined at shop first but wasn't comfortably.

Yesterday I unjoined again and started to check floater levers what did need some care and precisiion ( they are fortunatelly brass ones ), O rings conditions, gaskets, and timimg. I got timing with what I did feel on engine also playing with iddle mixture and metering rods height.

Guess what I got ?  SMOOTH ENGINE ON COLD AND HOT CONDITIONS... damn I'm happy right now. Anyway I want to check now with lamp and a hand tach to check rpms at iddle and choke cam positioning, also check for links graduation for the perfect carb as possble. I have a Highgrade calibration and rebuilt guide for all this carbs with all the measurements.

Even I paid for a rebuilt carb and wasn't really in good conditions I didn't asked for get back at least part of payment since they let me enter on his shop, search and play etc... and also gave me the chance to search another parts to rebuilt another two carbs I have. So that's my payment fot a good service and attention even I had to work on the carb.

So I think by the moments I can forgett about carb issues :D

Ok today I pressed gas pedal just once. Engine started and died inmediatly... pressed second time and engine started perfect. Maybe is imposible to get the car just like the owner's manual says like new ???

do you run an electric fuel pump?  I find that my carb starts easier with it.  maybe i was getting some fuel drainback with my mechanical.  either way, even when it sits for a while, it always starts right up...

Not for anything, but would it be that hard for a company to repop the TQ plastic that always seems to warp or crack?

never had one, but have heard enough people who swear by them to think that's it's a very good carb.  I never saw one up close, so maybe it's too complicated to do?

Completely stock car... is mechanical pump AAC made in Canada.

I think maybe I still have to check for choke links. When I pressed three times full gas pedal yesterday the Car started up PERFECT and never died or stumbling, but I was dreaming as owner's manual says, just one full pedal gas pressed. I had it once my car in the past in that conditions with a NOS carb, but plastic bowl ( again ) broke misteriouslly after 3 or 4 months... OH THOSE DAYS !!!.

I can't really see really hard to repop. About the cab itself, if bowl is good is a piece of cake to tune up IMHO.

Another part that woul be nice to be easy to find is the O rings between top body and plastic bowl what is easy to get damage if you unjoin it several times and is a critical part of the carb.

I'm really happy with TQ carb performance. Several guys ( specially mustang ones hehe ) have driven my car and they get scared when press the gas pedal about power. they say that carb model it looks to be part of the difference.
