Pulley Woes

Well Saturday at carlisle :nana:, I picked up my water pump and crank pulleys. Put them on yesterday and now the p/steering pump does not line up. Remember, I'm going from a A/C setup to a non A/C set up BB 400. I guess the question is, I need a whole p/steering pump mounting bracket set up or did I get the wrong crank pulley? The crank pulley I got has 2 grooves, verses the 4 that was on it,  with the inside groove diameter smaller than the outside.
What do I need to do?

Im not sure what you need to do.   I was just looking at my car last night because I will be swapping to non ac stuff too, and was wondering the same thing.  It didnt look like the PS would line up at all.

You got to be carefull on the pulleys also. There must be a thousand that look the same but only 2 will work. I got a show this sunday and did not want the A/C pump on there.

Yeah I hate pulleys but i'm sure i'll figure it out.   ;D
If you cant get the stuff in time for the show, maybe you could swap your old 4 groove crank pulley back on and run the PS off it for now.

I guessed that and that's the reason I started a thread sometime ago, when you started that change

The original crank pulley is larger in diameter and rubs the w/pump pulley. Guess I'll go back to the original setup for now.

Mounting brackets for A/C versus non A/C are different (at least for the alternator). I ran into the same problem and used a couple of washers to line things up.

hey bob after looking through some of my stuff, I have an Idler pulley on my 73 400 used to be ac and now removed after rebuild I may not need it, it it will help you it's yours

Bob

srpntlair1, thats a great pic. Question, looking at the set up, what ran the water pump? And I'm assuming the other groove on the crank pulley ran the p/steering pump? And yes that would be nice if you did not need the parts after rebuild.

Thanks
Bob
