Hello, NICE place you all have here, I just found it and boy it's full of good info.  I am hoping for a little help.  I was told that the Charger that I have is a #'s matching car, but now that I've checked the block it reads 2-13-70.  The car is  a 1969 Dodge Charger w/383 BB.  I've got the full #'s off the block, VIN, and all the fender tag #'s.  Im not sure if it's possible to have a 2-13-70 motor in a 1969 any all help or advice is appreciated.  Thanks so much, Steve.

it's not possible to have that late of a motor in a 69. but if you have the last 6 numbers off the block and the last 6 numbers on your VIN and fender tag they should all match IF it was the original motor.. if you have a different last 6 numbers on the block identification pad itself, it doesn't match. hope this helps
also just for reference a 69 383 car will have a motor that was either assembled in 1968 or up until about mid year 1969. DEFINITELY not in 1970.. could
POSSIBLY be a warranty motor if they blew up the original under warranty that first year

Depressed?

YOU HAVE A 69 CHARGER!!!  YAY

To be honest IMHO unless you have a 440 or 426 who cares if its numbers matching?

Really if I where buying a car I would be more interested in a non original 440 car over a 383 numbers car anyway.

I have a 68 383 Charger that has the orginal motor in it. And I was pissed. I was hoping it wasnt orginal so

I didnt feel guilty when I put a 440 in it.

Its all personal preference I guess. But unless its a pretty rare motor or some sort of odd option car, I couldnt

care less if its numbers matching or not.

Besides overblowing the perceived worth of too many of these old cars, the other downfall the B-J circus has created is this "gotta have numbers matching everything".  If you get your enjoyment from old cars strictly by tracking them as a blue chip investment, then this is something to fuss over and the best piece of advice I could offer is to remember that you make money when you buy the car, not when you sell it.
If, on the other hand, you are into the old musclecars because you love the fun of restoring and driving them, then get on with it!  :drive:

Truth be told, I bet a lot of "numbers matching" cars, aren't really.
